What I read was that Lowes was closing 10 non-performing stores throughout the U.S.; 2 of them are here in Maine. The Biddeford store closed immediately on Sunday night past. The inventory from that store will be transferred to other Lowes stores in the area. The Ellsworth store will be closing in another month or so. The article I read stated that the Ellsworth store would be having lots of sales to reduce inventory. You might be able to get some deals at that store, but since you're from Southern Maine (like me), the long drive to Ellsworth might be too dear. :red:

Here in NH, Manchester has already closed. Hooksett and Claremont to follow.

Browndeer , Wi. ( suburb of Milwaukee) shut up tight Sunday night. Likely they will spread inventory to other stores in metro area.

Reading a number of local news reports.
Lowes closed 20 out of 1700 stores across the nation.
The ones in NH were to close together or not doing well.
The Haverhill, Ma store was to close to the new Salem, NH store (Tax free).
Heard they did 48 billon in sales!!!

I've always been amazed that this company managed to put up shop in so many places without interfering with itself..

Maybe Lowes should stop charging pallet fees?

;)

I doubt you'll see any sell off of pellets or anything else from the closing stores. they will just move the goods to the next nearst store and or warehouse.

Claremont NH store closing after opening just 18 months ago. WTF?

No way they broke even on this store. What a waste of capital, good for anyone moving into that space.

Over saturated area in during very poor, depressed economy. I would hope they review their economic advisors while they are closing. So many workers will be out on the street. The trickle down from this poor investment reaches far beyond the store's footprint. We have one in Augusta Me. very nice store with some really good workers. I would hate to see them go.
The one in Ellsworth is in a rotten location. The town did a road change diverting traffic toward a new area with a new WalMart and HD.
The one in Biddeford was OK until they put another one in just a few miles away.

We have a Lowe's on each side of the river, about 6 miles apart.

I bought my pellets from the one in Claremont.Sorry to see even more people put out of work in this getting worse economy but every time I went in there-and you see it in other big box stores, there where more employees then customers. They are tied to housing-which is tied to employment, with an uptick in mortgage delinquencies (those over 90 days late),and credit card payments I can see even more closings coming.
No reason to worry about pellets availability or price, more sellers then ever (Lowes,Home Depot and Tractor Supply) and no plant explosions/fires like in years before.Thats my take on it.
