My 5 year old stove had some issues last year and the top baffle cracked. I have the replacement parts and started the reassembly. I'm dry fitting the secondary air tubes and all I can say is wow, what a strange design. The clips seem odd and they don't seem to hold much. I have serched here and found some info but could use a few inside pictures of the front tube and the exact placement of the clips and air tubes.

Any other tips or tricks to getting this back together would be great. I have 2 tubes of furnace cement, gaskets and a ratchet strap.

Thanks , FWest

Getting the burn tubes in right can be tricky. And if they are not in right, the stove burns incorrectly which can in turn warp the secondary rack again. Here's a link to an older thread on this topic. If you have a camera, can you document your process to help others that are in the same boat?

I showed the local dealer, he emaild some pictures to Jotul and they said I over fired the stove. Never saw anything above 500F. I think this design is flawed. My first and last Jotul. I'll make it through this year and do something different next year.

Both side plates were cracked as well. I had a steel stove from the the big box store before this-it's working fine to this day next door.

If I recall correctly, there have been several others that have had problems with the newer 118.

It looks to be real problem. The more I hear/read the more pi$$ed I get.

FW, is Jotul taking care of you? or are the repairs out of your pocket?

No help what so ever. I have been going through my dealer. I will contact Jotul myself today.

At the end of last season I had a strange crack in my F500 top. I did the same thing as you with pictures and went to my dealer. Their original thought was overfiring but I argued that I had not. I brought in the top and the jotul rep stopped in to see it. It was determined to be a bad cast around the oval.
If you say you have not overfired your stove and its still under the 5yr warranty, continue to argue your case.

I have made contact with Jotul via the online form. If anyone has a phone number for Jotul contacts in the Northeast please forward them to me.

Thanks, FWest

Not sure if this helps as I have never used the number:

Heat has not been a problem. Cracking, service and being accused of over fireing are my issues. An easy out for jotul if all cracking problems are due to over fireing -BS.

I'm very disappointed to see this cracking issue on the 118.

I love the looks of this stove, and would consider picking one up absent this problem.

Another reason to give careful consideration to buying stoves used...

Just curious, were you able to contact Jotul by phone, and if so, did they want to help you? I'm very interested in, not only the stove, but the customer service you receive. Not only am I looking for a new stove, but I have a Jotul. Thanks.
