Been trying to stay busy but working really slow. However, I did complete the task of moving wood into the barn to be ready for winter. There should be close to 3 cord in there and that is what we've been burning for the last 4 winters. We'll see how it goes this winter.

Here is one load ready to be unloaded and stacked.

Final. Some will notice I could have filled out that last row a bit but that is where I ended up with the last load. Not worth hauling that little bit just to fill out a row.

Final from another angle. Notice how sloppy I got in that one area. However, it is still strong and should not fall over. No t-posts or other things used in the stacking; only the wood.

When doing this work I could not help but wonder about some folks also preparing for the coming winter but rather than wood they will burn fuel oil or propane. Some no doubt are facing tremendous costs but here I am with 5 full winter's wood put up and most of it is ready to burn at any time, except for the oak we cut last winter.

lol, actually I don't

Who me jealous? No, not at all.......ok maybe a little. I'm also glad to hear you burn about 3 cords, it makes me feel a whole lot better to be sitting on 6.

Aw come on guys. Look at that left end and the one I placed wrong so that the next tier is on an angle. Not a biggie so long as it gets straightened out right away.

No fellas. Don't get jealous. Show us you can do better. After all, look at Zap's wood stacks.

Nope still don't see it. Maybe its because I am currently working on my 20x9x8 chunk/punk/ugly crib

Leave me out of the conversation, nice job Sav. Is it cooling off your way yet?

Dennis how many years has this wood seasoned? just curious to see if its as old as me? LOL

It has not been as cool as predicted. Last night was 37. We've only had a very few frosts and no hard freeze. That is amazing for this time of the year. We finally had a day without the wind but it is predicted to come up again. Sounds like it might get nasty real soon.

Not as long as you think Bobby. It is part of this:

It was split and stacked in April 2009. There will be enough left in that stack for all of next year with a little left over.

Dunno Dennis, I'd give that at least 5 more years.

   Do you think Tony would then come to try and split it to check for moisture readings?

Nice cribbing on the ends. The wood has sat so long, the splits are actually looking forward to being burned just to break up the monotony of sitting there all those years. Great examples as always Dennis, I have to go cry now.

Thanks pol.

Nice job Dennis, how high is that stack in the garage? About 7 feet? That is great you can heat your whole house on 3 cords, I know you heat only with wood. I am curious how much the temperature varies inside your house. Do you get up in the middle of the night and do reloads? I am sure if I heated only with wood I would get quite a variance.

Thanks Golf. The closest stack is 8' high and it tapers to around 6.5 at the wall. We tend to like a more even temperature than most folks live with. I do sometimes throw a split or two in there during the night as I have to get up anyway so I always check the stove. If it isn't hot in the house I don't hesitate to throw a stick or two in but that does not always happen. Sometimes we get it too hot in here for sure but that makes things nice with the ladies! This year we are going into a bit of an unknown with the heat because of an addition and remodeling. If need be, we have the Progress on order.

Bioman, thank you. It is nice to be ready for winter before winter gets to us. Having a large wood pile is also better than money in the bank. Banks don't want to pay interest anyway so it makes the woodpile even more valuable.

My son got my shed filled last weekend since I still can't do it. First fire today in just one stove, the little one. It never got out of the 40's today and the rest of this week......lows in the 30's and highs 40's. And no that is not my son, but my grandson who was helping :)

Great news Steve. I figured you for sure would be burning wood this winter. We're proud of you as it takes one danged good man to go through what you have and somehow I think you are going to come out of this a better man.

Thanks Dennis. I figured out how I could do it without bending or lifting much......with the help of the Commish (my wife) and of course my son getting the wood in the wood shed. Besides, I feel a lot better and I think the Dr. is going to let me start doing more at this next appointment next Monday......maybe even go back to work with some restrictions. I just never tire of the pictures of your place, and others on here who live in such beautiful country.

Dennis, PM coming

Dennis, nice looking stacks as usual. If mine looked 1/2 as good I'd be happy but got to keep practicing.

Okay maxed_out, we'll give you two years. By then we expect to see you at the top of the heap.

Dennis those stacks look great! It is a great feeling to be ready for the winter! It's been warmer than usual here too (in Va) but it sounds like I'm going to have to start burning regularly in the next week or so. My wood is ready but not nearly as neat as yours!

When folks look at my 8-9 seasoned cords of oak, I say" Don't even think of taking any, they are all bar coded!" I'm ready for another winter!
