Assonet MA
Thanks to this forum and its splendid members and plentiful posts, I learned about and installed a proper (I think!) block off plate for my fireplace insert.

I went to Lowes and grabbed the huge Roxul insulation - the one used for insulation not just soundproofing - fire rated.

Well, after the install I have a huge amount of this stuff left. I used 1 out of a dozen pieces. They are maybe 16" x 48" in size and each is maybe 4" thick uncompressed.

I don't have any use for the leftovers, so rather than post on CL, I figured I'd let other forum members have it first.

If you are anywhere near Assonet, MA drop me a message and come and get it.

Is this similar to kaowool?

I've been looking for something similar to this, and actually posted a wanted ad here several times for a small scrap. I don't need much, just a piece about 1' X 3' by 2-4" thick.

If nobody local takes you up on the offer let me know and I'll pay shipping for a small piece of it.

I just did the same thing. I have about 9 peices left. I am going to wrap my oil furnace with it and what ever is left over, I'll stuff in the basement sill area where it needs it most.

Welcome to the forum cnice! Wish I had a use for the Roxul! I am sure someone can use it here..

Yep, its a form of rock wool. Learned about it here. Let me see how much I can cram into a small box, let you know, and we'll figure it out from there.

Compressing it will kill its R value.

I think he's only compressing it for shipping purposes.
