Last April there was a thread on Vermont Wood pellets versus Okanagans. Any new or changed opinions on the pellets?

I've started burning a few Vermont bags. My impression is that they burn pretty hot and fast, may have a little odor here at the start of the season with the igniter going off and on and therefore less continuous burn. Vermonts seem like a pretty good pellet. I like their being produced locally and the price is the same as for Okanagans.

I'm well set for winter 2011-2012 but would like know what your current experience is and especially if it has changed this year.

I burned both last year and was happy with the perfomance of both brands.

According to "Jtakeman's" data the Vermont's produce ~ 6% LESS heat and ~15% LESS ash than the Okangan's .

For my stove I prefer the Vermont's. I did not notice the heat difference but enjoyed having less ash.
As an added side benefit for my location, the Vermont's are $15 cheaper per ton than the Okanagan's.

Obviously, this is not as scientific as Mr. Takeman's results but I switched from Okies to VTs at the end of last season and noticed a huge difference.

Heat was functionally 'unchanged' from my P68, but it was much, MUCH cleaner. The VTs produced so little ash, I came home from a week on the road and thanked my wife for cleaning the stove while I was gone. She didn't, the VTs just burned better, cleaner and with less ash.

Combine that with them being local, less fines, less dust and less money and it was a no brainer to put 6 Tons of them in my basement this year. Plus, the raw pellets smell so good, they are almost intoxicating!

I like 'em both.

I can get VTs a bit cheaper this fall.
I plan on picking up a few tons in the near future.
June at J&S has them for $270 /ton as of yesterday.

I don't think you could go wrong with either pellet.
Assuming they both are of similar quality as last year.

Burned both last year.
Seemed to give same heat. Vermont just seemed cleaner.
Only issue I had with VT was some bridging in hopper which I believe they addressed by making the pellets smoother on the outside.

So what I'm taking away from your comments is that it's "six of one, half a dozen of another" and I should do about the same with either pellet. Some people like one over the other and one may produce more ash and the other more heat, but they good pellets in the same ballpark. If my experience this winter is different than that, I'll post. Thanks. :)
