15 hour burn

When I got home last night it felt a bit cool. The weather was in the mid 40's and really windy with some rain. Around 7:30-8:00 I started a fire in the Fireview and went to bed as I was really beat. The house was toasty this morning and I went to pick my wife up from the hospital. We got home just a short time ago and I asked if she was comfortable. Naturally it is better than the hospital was. That room she was in was cold! Anyway, my wife said if we could keep it this warm she would like it. So, I put in 4 small splits and in about 10 minutes we engaged the cat and turned the draft to 1 (scale of 1-4).

So, that means we went over 15 hours on last night's wood before adding more wood. I think we could have gone much longer but with her condition I wanted to assure she stays toasty warm. And yes, she is doing just fine.
 
Glad to hear she is fine, do you think the new stove will be overkill for you?

Sounds like you guys had a couple rough days. Take the day off, rest up and get well. The Woodstocks can really hold the coals, last night I found coals after 20 hours but not enough to relight splits, had to start from scratch.
 
Yea, yea. I can hear it now. You are going to be just like those blaze king guys when you get this new progress aren't you!?!


Sayin' stuff like:

"I load the stove up every day or three, less if I want to keep it under 80 in here."

:lol: Not sure it would keep a fire that long Pen but it is a good thought. Mrs says thank you. Now we plan on taking Todd's advice.

I hope Judy is well.

I hear you on the long burns. I started a smaller fire (first of the season) Tuesday night. From could stove to 250 and cat light off was about 25 minutes. This is with the new SS cat and the new SS scoop. I reloaded when I left the house at 6 am, set it at about .75. When I got home at about midnight the stove was at about 175 and the house was warm and dry. It had been rainy and windy in the 50s all day. I did not reload, the house would have been too warm. That was 18 hours!
 
We have that same nasty weather here today too, Dennis. 44*, cloudy, drizzle/rain/drizzle, and 30mph winds. I lit the stove last night to take the chill off, and have kept it going all day today. I was hoping to make it a few more weeks before burning, but it is just a little too chilly.
 
Home to a cozy stove - just what the doctor ordered and the best medicine for sure. Good job, Backwoods, keep it up!
 
Boy would really love to have a nice slow burn going on, however leaving town tomorrow so no sense in making a mess of the clean stove. Darn it!!

Loaded the 30-NC the second week in May and the house is still warm. Probably won't need to add wood for another week or so.

Agreed Pen.......heck I just completely relined my Napoleon 1900P with brick yesterday, came home and tore all the interior pipe off and cleaned it this evening, polished the stove, cleaned out the blower.....looks like new.......then I started 'er up easy to cure the bricks, and plan on stretchin' her out a little when we hit the sack later......(the stove that is).....lol....those stoves were made to get dirty!!

Hospitals suck (just my opinion, with all the needles and stuff), so it's good that MS B-W-S is out.
Keep the fire cooking.

This morning the wife is up and her fiesty self again. I'm so happy they were able to fix the problem. Now I have to be careful to make sure she does not overdo things.
