Who's burning already??

As this is my third season with the pellet stove, and having absolutely no experience or even contact with one prior to 4 years ago when I saw one in person at my buddy's house, I am like a little kid with it!!! I buy Pellets wherever I see them, have 3 tons stored at my buddy's warehouse, and a brand new pallet set up on our enclosed porch for easy access to them as I need them, wired my furnace to only turn on a few minutes every hour to keep my forced hot water pipes from freezing in the dead of winter (crawl space under half the house),,,,,,,
My wife and kids just kinda shake their heads when they see me cleaning and tinkering with it and sometimes just sittin there staring at it. I am in NE PA and it really hasn't got anywhere near cold enough to burn it on a regular basis but I find myself firing it up early in the morning "just to take the chill out of the air".....
Anybody else out there just like to see it burn???

Welcome to the club, admitting to the problem won't help in this situation. :lol:
 
I just started mine last night on auto, she comes on when needed as per the thermostat, I am in Kutztown, PA near you.
 
I live probably pretty darn close to you, and yeah we've had maybe two or three nights. I think I burned those few nights that it hit below 40 overnight just to take the chill out. I set the thermostat to 75 before going to bed.

We're supposed to get a few nights this week around 40 so there may be a few more nights I will be burning.\
 
Been burning in Central PA for almost a month. Had snow the first weekend in october. Stove comes on when thermostat calls for it. It keeps the wife happy and the 1 yr old daughter like to watch the flames.

You sir have a major issue. Best you become a member of the Pellet Pig Club, it is a modified twelve step program. It cures nothing and feeds your addiction.

As for burning I lit my stove up yesterday to check it out and after running for a couple of hours, I shut it down, checked the bolts on the new convection blower, let it stay off for four hours and did a relight. It is still running, the temperature here was in the upper thirties this morning.

It's nice and warm in here, I don't know if I'll shut it down or let it run it will depend upon what the temperatures do.

Another poor victim of pelletitus!

Only turned the stove on once so far, and that was to do the pre-winter cleaning two Saturdays ago when it was 85!!! Just waiting for a good cold night.
 
Burned a half bag two weks ago in the old stove. My new stove gets inspected today, and should be buring this weekend.

Days in the 60-70's, nights in the 45-55 range really doesnt regire an heating yet. We are WAY above average for october temps here.
 
Besides the initial test fire when my stove was installed about a month and a half ago, I've only burned for a couple hours one night a couple weeks ago. The 2.5 tons in the basement are going to last me well into the season at this rate....
 
Already burned 1-1/2 bags, there is something to be said about starting the stove in the morning and sitting there with a cup of coffee watching the fire.
 
I am 3 bags in. I start her up 1 hour before the wife gets out of bed and 1 hour before she comes home from work. I run it for a couple hours then shut it down. I will admit to tinkering with it a bit as it is something new to me.
 
about 8 bags so far, but that is less than half of what I had burned by this time last year. My wife won't tolerate temps less than 73. I would go broke trying to heat with oil at that temperature.
 
I'm down here in Ga but a Pa. guy by birth. It's 38 this morning so one of my stoves is going right now. It was 50 and windy as heck last night so my first bag is gone! It's going to be in the 30's for the next week so I guess IT HAS BEGUN. 3 1/2 tons in the garage so I'm set.
Just curious about all you Eastern Pa guys. Why haven't you taken advantage of the $170/ton anthracite that is right in your back yard? Way more btu's per lbs and the new stoves are very clean and trouble free. To me, being a former coal burner, it's a no brainer unless you are an environmentalist and don't understand how the new stoves operate. Contrary to some of the BS that I read from dissenters, they don't stink, they aren't dirty, they don't generate a lot of ash if you get decent coal, they aren't hard to light and keep going, maintenance is NOT a problem. They stoke the coal just the same as a bottom feeding pellet stove.

Well now, round here the pellet stove is a "way of life"
We started having a few fires late in September to take off the chill in the morning and a couple all nighters.

With three stoves upstairs we are Pellet stove "Junkies"

For the last several days we have been havng a fire in the eavening and through the night to keep the place warm.

I use nut shells in our stoves and have for many many years.

Its a tool, plain and simple. I am pretty anal about keeping the little machines clean and running proper.

At times, just sitting there watching the fire is an enjoyable thing.

Too many people are so used to just turning a knob or flipping a switch and having the house get warm.


I have always enjoyed "WOOD HEAT" and the pellet stove (no matter what its burning) is in escence "wood Heat"

On my 4th bag now...better then last year at this time for sure.
 
I've been "burning" since Sept. 5th. I had just shut it down on June 12th, short but great summer. I've already burned 12 bags and have 6 tons stored up. I might go get more...... The National Weather Service says its going to be colder than normal here.

My first post!! WOO HOO I just purchased My Harman Accentra insert about a month ago and have burned about 8 bags also I love it & am actually surprised at how well it maintains a steady temp throughout the house. I was worried it would cook us out of the living room.
 
I took Smokey's advice and applied for my Pig Status,,,,,, maybe a trip to HD to get another Pallet will cinch it up for me,,,, still only $197 for Stove Chow,,,,,, I already have 3 1/2 tons and only burned 1 1/2 last year,,,,,,,, so this would give me enough for all of next season!!!!!!!

I've been burning on and off since the beginning of October. It's only gotten into the high 40's here the past few days, and my house cools down quick, it's a little old house. Burning through my sixth bag now.
 
Got back from working in Mass all week, it was 59 in the house, we're under way!!!
 
No. Been too warm in SE CT. House still 68 in am so far. Maybe tomorrow am.
