Greetings to all you fun pellet stove owners!
This is a great site and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all your posts already and can't wait to read more (after work :)).
So I will soon be the owner of a new Harman Accentra pellet insert and after doing much research I really look forward to it. It is going to be installed into a zero clearance fireplace on Saturday Oct. 29th with a 4'' stainless steel liner in the existing chimney, and I have read the post on what to do before the installers arrive. What I really want to know is if anyone else has had this stove installed and came up with questions after the installer left. I live about an hour out of town so would really like to learn everything I can when the installer is there. Also, it seems that cleaning is very important with all pellet stoves. What do I need to be most concerned with as I do the daily/weekly cleaning of this stove? And lastly, and it seems like this varies from person to person and might be tricky to answer, but why do people choose to run it on stove temp mode over room temp mode, or vice versa? Really I'm just trying to learn all I can from previous owners and their trials and tribulations. Thanks in advance for your help and this great site!

Congrats on your new stove and welcome to the forum. Cleaning is very important .

Daily: scrape the burn pot Harman provides a tool for this, carbon builds up in the throat of the pot near the auger and forms a speed bump as one member calls it. My experience is this only slows it down.

Weekly: Shut her down when cool vac out the ash clean out the burn pot and you will see the speed bump. I use a small screw driver to remove as I find the Harman tool tends to some times ride over the bump not really getting under and removing.

For a major clean if you go to the Harman web site and click on customer service link it will give you step by step instructions with pics for your unit.

I run my stove in stove temp mode most of the time, early and late season I've used room temp mode to take the chill out of the house. The stove temp mode saves wear & tear on the igniter room temp saves pellets. Experiment and see what works for you & your home.Try different brands of pellets have fun enjoy and once again Welcome hope this helps.

Read the manual and ask questions. It is a great unit, you made a wise choice and welcome.

Congratulations on the new stove. My father-inlaw just installed one in his masonry fireplace. I have a p-68 and have been burning about 5 years. I had a lot of questions when I first got mine but you will be an expert in no time. I used to clean the burn pot every morning but I have found it is better to let the carbon build up so that it just chips off. Doesn't affect the stove any. I don't clean it weekly. I usually wait till the pan is pretty full or after burning a ton of pellets. It will put out more heat when clean and the window gets dirty quickly. I don't know if the accentra operates differently. One of the reasons I went with harmon was the fact that you can burn lower grade pellets and you don't have to clean it as often. I set mine on room temp mode with the probe just hanging down in back of the stove. dealer recommended. If I felt that the stove was not running often enough and wanted more heat I would move the probe out closer to an atrium door. You can experiment with it. My stove is in a corner and the door is on a different wall than the exhaust vent. Get a good surge protector. I had a cheap one and had to replace the circuit board. Good luck with the stove.

Just purchased my Accentra insert a month ago & so far love it! I have a 2,000sq ft multi level home & the highs have been in the 40s this week. I have mine set on room temp & it holds the temp right where it is set. I did notice it holds a more stable temp when the probe is placed to the side of the stove about waist level compared to having the probe placed inside the lower air intake area. I spent all summer long doing research on pellet stoves. This was the best place I found. Do some reading here & youll learn way more than the guy that installs your stove will teach you.

Keeping the heat exchangers clean! This will make a big difference in heat output. That's taking of the back plates off and scraping the baffles behind them. I also suggest having a plan for pulling the stove out of the fireplace. At some point you'll need to get to the rear of the stove and clean the liner up the chimney along with the catch area for the fines. It's all in the manual. Read it and re-read it again and again. If you're stumped on something..Come to the forum and ask. We all like to help. Good luck and happy burning!

Thank you all for the great answers, they are exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely be reading the manual front to back as well. Can't wait for it to be installed as its been in the 30's at night but 60's during the day so starting up our big wood furnace almost isn't worth it, but I would love to just be able to start up the pellet stove to take the chill out. Thanks again and happy burning!

Pulling the unit out so I could clean it was very easy, once I did it... But at first I was very nervous about it. When my installer was here, I really wished that I pulled it out in front of him so I knew what it felt like.
