I have decided to do the same since I have given both every opportunity to make issue right over the past 10 months with 24 contacts by phone and in person.

After a year of BS with the seller they have agreed to a full refund and will take my stove away, but will not replace.. Problem is my old stove is gone and it is winter here in Fairbanks and the stove is running.

These two quotes say it all for me. You say they haven't offered to make it right but they have according to your first post made on the group. "After a year of BS with the seller they have agreed to a full refund and will take my stove away, but will not replace.. "

You don't want the stove the way it is, they obviously aren't going to replace the stove for a paint issue so you should take the refund and move on. I'm sure you can afford to burn some oil for a week or two without going broke while you shop for a new stove. Going to court at this point seems a bit silly to me.....

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here, that's why I started this post to find another equivalent stove to the BKK..

The stove is going now, my furnace was condemned and taken out of service due to cracked heat exchanger when I just had a fall tune-up done which was required by law, and furnace replacement has not been put into operation yet.

Not to many options in Fairbanks for furnaces or wood stoves. I need heat, having the stove removed for a full refund with no replacement at this time will put me with no heat, which is no an option...

Woodstove has to be EPA rated because I took tax credit, needs to be thermostatically controlled because I am gone during the day, big enough to heat 3 floor levels, and I have 6 cords dried wood for this winter that are 22" long...

Retailer had all summer to fix the problem but just gave me the run-around... If I would have kept my old Earth Stove I would be fine, but Earth Stove went out of business 15 years ago... so what are my options here..

Yes I can keep the BKK and stay warm. I can paint it myself next summer, and let the manufacture and retailer get away with ripping me off and laughing all the way to the bank... Just to treat others the same… I think not…

Sorry you're without another option, the condemned furnace wasn't mentioned until now. All that you mentioned prior to that was you not wanting to spend nearly 4 bucks for a gallon for oil. As for a stove with a thermostat that isn't a requirement for a wood stove, nice to have yes, requirement no. Did your Earth stove(not familiar with them) have a thermostat? Maybe you can buy the replacement stove and time it so you can burn the BK until a suitable replacement is installed. Obviously this shouldn't be something you have to figure out but it's best to figure out a way to be happy and warm without causing any gray hairs!

Earth Stove was thermostacally controlled.. but no CAT unit, I am surprised they went out of bussiness, best burning stove in Alaska, large storage capacity and took 24" cuts.. I even cooked on it for a few years for me and 2 kids before I got the house finished..

Does your stove have a production date on it?
Just wondering when the bad batch was produced.

That's 4000 Alaska dollars. Locally, the BK is about a 2500$ stove and compares with many many other regular plate steel stoves with regards to price point.

I paid 4300 for mine over in NY.
doesn't sound too middle of the line to me...
In fact, I don't even know of a more expensive wood stove aside from one made of solid gold or some other stupid celebrity edition stove.

I'm sure they're around though.

I agree with Jeff.. it is pretty amazing.
My experience with BK has been nothing less than outstanding so far.. except for one crappy dealer, but that was easily solved by going to another :)
I don't blame BK for a crappy dealer however.

October, 2010 is the date stamped on the stove... If you have a Blaze King dated as such and have paint issues, please contact me at:

Well if they agree to give a full refund and haul it off. Get your refund go back to woodway with the refund money and buy a new one? I know you dont like woodway because of it nor does many people in town but that seems like the easy solution. If you are getting a full refund the price hasnt gone up get your money go right back to the store and get a new one. They acknoweldged it was a limited few that were affected so you should be good to go.

Exactly. Returning this well used stove for a full refund is quite an offer from the dealer or BK. Hard to beat a full refund for max satisfaction. You can choose to buy another BK or something else.

This is the other side of the story that pretty well makes it hard for me to get behind the OP.

Well this is the problem, The dealer will refund the stove, but refuses to give me a replacement... i.e., no stove, means no heat and we have snow on the ground..The paint issue was apparent within the first fire back last January, which is when I immediately contacted the dealer....This is Fairbanks, the next closest dealer is about 350 mile from here, and I do not have a way to go and get a 400 pound stove..

My plan is to wait until next summer, hire some help to get it up the stairs and outside and sand blast it my self either leave it raw steel, or paint it a nice cherry red... The BKK Parlor is a very nice burning stove, and I want to keep it, so I am just going to fix this mess myself. Then I know for sure the repaint was professionally done by myself.

All the Blaze King stove I have seen in operation are one of the better stoves on the market for heat and efficiency. I would recommend them to anyone who likes to: haul, cut, split, move, stack and load fire wood.....

Darn & I thought about driving to Fairbanks & getting a used BK for 1/2 price. LOL

I know it leaves a bad taste, but I believe you are making the right call.
I've "cut off my nose spite my face" a few times & learned to think the whole thing thru.
On some phone conversations I've had dealing with problems, I'd have hung up on myself for some of the things I said. Anger is not helpful when trying to resolve issues.
You may be able to get your wood burning supplies elsewhere or "online" so you don't have to deal with your local BK dealer.

Fixing it yourself next summer allows you to keep heating your home thru this winter (& it's just now getting cool, cold is yet to come).
You may be able to write/call /communicate with BK & get some of the cost of the repair reimbursed. Worth a try.
Hint; "you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar".

To move it out side, maybe you can borrow a heavy duty dolly & get a young strong lad (or 2) to help.

Good luck.
Again, weighing all the info you've posted, you are doing the "right" thing, (or at least "the best you can with the situation you are in") IMO
Sometimes you have to "bite the bullet" (enough old, but wise sayings) :)

Cherry red would be great!

I wonder if using an actual sand blaster would give it a peened texture? Sorta bumpy.

Anybody else amazed at how far a Blaze King thread will go. Especially if you title it something like "My BKK will only burn 60hrs what is wrong?"

I've said it before, it's a cult following! I know I got sucked in!

Tell me you aren't enjoying the Kool-Aid

But don't dare start a thread with I'm "Disappointed with my BKK or Fireview" OMG!

john in ak, would you say this thread is about over and ready to be closed?

One last thing - John - do not leave it bare - paint it whatever...but paint it. Bare metal oxidizes fast.

I use a stove paste once a year, it gives a good looking stove finish and you never have to deal with peeling paint...

Time to close this thread down now, wish my last post was to acknowledge resolution to my Blaze King problem, but it appears that is not going to happen at this time... You guys are the greatest, keep warm and safe, John

This is the first time I've heard of using stove paste on a steel stove. Closing thread per request. Don't be a stranger john.
