Do you have a Southern States or Tractor Supply Company near you? If so, try calling them up and see if they carry anything.

We have a TS in MIddletown, DE and the pellets I saw down there were mush!! I don't remember what kind they were, I just know I sure didn't want them. As soon as you touched them, they crumpled up into sawdust!

Will have to check on SS. There may be one in Newark.

Checked TS in Middletown, they have Magnetic and Appalachian Hardwood.

She said they were both 100% hardwood.

I have some of the Appalachian's and they burn decent. They don't have the heat of the Ligs but they are much cleaner. I am getting less than .5% ash from them. Try a few bags and see what you think of them. I am pretty sure they are made by Energex.

Dan, why don't you shoot BTU a PM and tell him where you live. Maybe he can tell you if anyplace near there has them.

I've already messaged him and he said the closest they are to me is 150 miles away, somewhere south of Baltimore. Hopefully someone in South Central PA will start carrying them, because I'd love to try them out!

Same here with green ligs. My heat exchangers have this heavy white crap on them within 3 days. The ash pan is overflowing in 3 days the heat output sucks compared to last seasons. Thank god I only bought one ton.

Don't get those magnetic pellets....they will stick to the hopper and never feed!

THANK YOU, macman.

I've had enough problems with the ones I bought, sure don't need any more!!

I wanted to re-emphasize what's been noted in this thread regarding the blue labeled Lignetics Firestarters and also mention how using these pellets may actually DAMAGE YOUR STOVE.

I just spoke with my pellet stove installer (I have an Enviro Empress insert) to set up a cleaning for this year. I mentioned that I was seeing a lot more clinkers, less heat and more build up on my stove door last year and thought that maybe I was doing something wrong with my weekly and monthly cleanings. He asked what type of pellet I was burning and when I mentioned Lignetics he indicated that many of his customers last year had similar problems. It would seem the Lignetics has increased the conifer (i.e. tar) percentage in their pellets which causes a serious buildup of tar reside in the exhaust motor. He indicated that motors where so bad following the burning of this pellet that the only recourse was to replace them ($200 replacement fee). Just thought I'd throw this out there as not only might you see reduced heat from this pellet blend, but you may also be damaging your stove when using it.

I burned 3 tons of em last year. I had to thoroughly clean my stove every couple weeks . The heat produced was OK but they were the worst pellets (dustiest, dirtiest, and most ashes) I`ve had yet. I`ll not be buying any more Lignetics.

First I ever heard of pellet containing tar. Conifer is nothing but spruce-pine-fir and there are loads of pellets that are 100% SPF. It's more likely that they were using dirty fiber more than anything else. By dirty I mean contains to high a bark content to be used in a pellet without causing dirty stove issues. Bark cantains alot more ash than wood fiber does.

If it was tar, its more likely that they somehow added something that contained it, But it isn't the softwood fiber or all us softies would be screaming foul things!

I am a softie, I love burning softwood pellets and I have been seeking help for my issue.

I posted about this a week or so ago and either no one read it or no one cared to comment ;)

I just bought 8 bags of the BLUE LABEL Lignetics from TSC. LAST year the bags I bought from Ace Hardware DID day 'hardwood and conifer'...THIS year the blue label is saying "MADE FROM THE FINEST HARDWOOD SAWDUST". I am noticing some fines in the bag, variations in pellet size, fairly light in color, not an abundance of ash and a very good heat output...hate to jinx myself here but am on the 2nd bag and no clinkers so far (keeping paws crossed) :)

These people make softwoods 2, Have for years. Don't see them out this way much anymore. But they were fine trust me.

Lignetics got caught with there pants down and took some junk fiber in and made junk pellets from it. I will not stand here and listen to the "dish it on the softwood(conifer)"! It wasn't the softwood that caused it, Unless the softwood they were using was ground up telephone poles! Don't blame the species, Blame Lignetics for pulling some crap out of the swap and selling it to you!

We have many peeps here loving "conifer" or SPF. Do a search on Vermont wood pellets ifn' you don't believe lil old me! Or Okies, Spruce Pointes, CleanFire Pacific, Dragon Mountain, Pinnicle, just to name a few.

Can I get some help from my fellow softies here please?

i only burned Okies, Spruce Pointes and thought they both were excellent pellets very clean burning no tar
