Wow -
Woke up this morning to 1/2" of snow and a temp of 28 degrees! That's really quite early for us in So. Maine. We still have lots of trees with colored leaves on them.... :wow: I sure hope this isn't a sign of a bad Winter!!

You might want to check the Saturday/Sunday situation out.

They are calling for up to a foot here in Northeast PA on Saturday.

Here in NJ, we are looking at 6-10" forecast for Saturday...and our stove is disassembled in the garage waiting for my husband to finish cleaning it...grrrrrr

Lol that is probably what will happen. I have a wedding Saturday near Harrisburg so hoping to beat the bad weather by leaving early in the AM. It's about a 1.5hr drive for us. Don't need to worry about the rest of the day as we are spending the night.

My Big E has yet to be installed in the garage as I am still waiting for parts and I need to finish the electrical outlet install. Might need to turn on the 5000w ceiling mounted blower for the weekend and set it to the lowest, just so things don't freeze up in the garage.

By the way, are you a Forest Ranger? Just thinking with your name and all..

Quick, run to the store and get plenty of TP.

Hey - I'm not familiar with that brand of pellets - are they hard or soft? ;-)

I woke up to 15" on Wednesday morning and have been running the stove ever since. It is currently 3° and I only have five bags of pellets left. Sure hope we get our truckload of Rocky Mountains soon!

If there are leaves on the trees, and the snow is wet, and the wind blows, there will be power outages.

Yeah that puts us in the 6 to 12 range. Last night got cold an I realized the limitations of my stove. I went to bed with the dining room at 74 and bedrooms at 68, and woke up to my wife telling me to turn ont the heat. Temp got to 64 in the room, kids room was 62 and out side was in the mid 20's. I turned on the boiler for the first time this year to take the edge off. I am new to stoves and only kept it on setting 3 of five. Seems to be maintaining the heat now with the sun out. Setting 3 runs me about 2 bags a day. If I turned the stove up to 4 am I pushing it??

IMO, running your stove at max is not pushing it as long and you are not constantly running it there for days on end. The manufacture put five setting for a reason.

with 6+ inches of snow saturday and all these leaves.

THERE will be LOTS of power outages/trees down. GOOD for the scrounging efforts!

This is what i woke up to this morning! 3-4" on the grass and trees. @ around 800 feet in elevation, went 7 miles North to work and down to about 300 feet and there was barely anything.

If we get as much snow as they say (latest NWS report I got was "high risk of 8+") all that gas I bought for the generator pre-Irene will have been well worth it (yes, I used Sta-Bil)-we never lost power then but with all the leaves on the trees this could get real ugly. I just dug the snowblower out last weekend too! Guess I'll be stopping for beer and stocking the woodbox tonight ;)

We had snow on Sept 2 or 3 one year, with green leaves still on the deciduous trees. We laughed at the novelty of it, and figured it would melt off in a day or so. On Sept 5 we got dumped on, and that snow didn't melt until spring. Trees were bent over, and there were so many outages that some people didn't get power restored for a few months. Ours was only out for about 4 hours, but some neighbors down the road a few miles didn't get power back for a couple of weeks. Lots of people had their plumbing freeze up--didn't know how to drain it down, or that they needed to, I guess. You can still see trees that were bent over that year and never recovered. When the snow melted in the spring, the grass was still green underneath it, and a lot of plants in the garden just greened up and started blooming. I remember after the snow on the fifth, the weather cleared and the moon was full. Some swans flew really low over our house, migrating by moonlight. I mimicked their call, and they circled, calling to me and trying to persuade me to join them--I was afraid they'd try to land, and shut up. Trust me, if I could have flown with them that winter, I would have. It was a hard one.

Add some wind to this storm.

Wow! I just might be able to take out my Ski Doo before I have had a chance to clean up the leaves.

Beer, fuel, beer, fire wood, check!

On a conference call with one of the local power companies right now. The combination of wind and wet heavy snow is gonna be ugly...
