Lights flickered a few times so decided to get my first fire of the season. Loaded up with good seasoned wood left over from last year been covered all year so wood is dry. Started up like I've been doing for years and after a few minutes I noticed smoke coming out of the door, shut the door and the flames died out. Went outside to see what I could see and could see smoke coming out of the chiminey. Now I'm wondering is the chiminey blocked some how or did I just have a bad draught? I let it go out but I'm surprised how long it is taking to completly go out, when it does should I try starting it again or remove the wood and take out the baffle and try sticking my rods up the chiminey to see if something got down there. I cleaned the chiminey last year and was going to clean it in the near future but I'm pretty sure it's not a creosote problem. Any thoughts before the smoke clears would be appreciated. When I was outside a little while ago I heard quit a few tree branches craking in the woods so I think it's a matter of time before we lose power.

Sorry,

I did the spell check and made the changes and forgot to save it and posted it with all the mistakes.

Brian,

I had a similar problem awhile back.
After cleaning the flue and replacing the baffles, I had smoke coming out of the stove, and flue.
Turns out I had put the baffles in wrong, blocking most of the flue...

Take the wife's makeup mirror and hold it in the cleanout. You should be able to see up the chimney (with a flashlight below) up it and see if there is a clear path. This is what I do to check creasot up the flue.
Might help.

On the first fire of the season these things can happen. Make sure you take look inside the chimney to see if the path is clear, you never know, something maybe stuck in there. In the past I’ve heard stories of birds choosing to build nests in chimneys during the summer! Regards.

Good luck with the potential blockage

Just got my power back today lost power about a half hour after posting. Stove smoked for a couple hours and would not go out kept seeing good embers in the dark so tried cracking the door again but not enough to let smoke escape and I could see the wood getting hotter I did open the door to quickly move the wood a little closer and closed the door and after a few minutes the flames exploded and a puff of smoke came out into the room then I closed the door and it burned perfectly all week. So it turned out to be just a draft problem. Stayed warm for this week from hell we were a few hours short of 9 Days with out power. I do have a lot of free fire wood for the next year though. Thanks for all your reply's.
