posted back last week or so about my insert in my fireplace. the chimney guy said i only had a 3 inch flue, which was weird. so, over the week i was pulling down the ceiling in the basement and found a gas line running to the fireplace, capped off of course. these morons took out the gas line and stuff and put in an insert, and a big insert at that. no wonder the chimney is all burnt up, it wasn't meant for a wood stove. what in the world were these people thinking? a 3 inch flue on a stove that requires at least a 6 inch flue and a liner is just asking for trouble. can you guys believe that?

uuuuhhhhgggg!

Of the guy that used to own the house. For a Darwin nomination.

the flue is mortar. most of it is gone. not sure who installed the insert but the people who owned the house before me were from ecuador. they got deported for back taxes. i was told they were trying to heat the house with the insert. i would take pictures but i can't get it out without help.

i'm sorry, i meant get the insert out of the fireplace to get a picture of the flue. it weighs a ton.

Randall, I hope you can get that thing fixed right so you can enjoy the heat this winter.

A gas line running in the chimney . . . wouldn't be the first time I've heard of this . . . co-worker/pro sweep found such a thing when he went to put in a liner in a retiree's home . . . sad thing was it was done by a local gas company . . . but they have since paid to rectify this mistake.
