Hi Gang -

This week we bought a whole house humidifier to deal with the loss of humidity from our new pellet stove. My question is whether humidified air would feel warmer to the touch, or non-humidified air. I have heard opinions both ways.

The answer will determine how much humidity we add with the humidifier. Thanks for your help.

Humid or moist air feels warmer. You did yourself a big favor by buying one. No static electricity, no dry skin, and/or possible nose bleeds. All things caused by "Dry" air. We go through around 6-10 gallons a day in the heart of Winter.

What type of unit did you buy?

Humidifid air will definetly feel warmer because it raises the Dew Point. Here is an example:
cold side: Temp: 40, RH 80%, DP 34.5 - warm side: Temp: 90, RH 88%, DP 83. I recently
installed a Herrmidifer 50. It is a 6"x6" with a nozzle from an oil furance that sprays water.
It is great because it is low maintenance because the only to change is the nozzle, no pads!
Hope this helps.

Hi -

We bought a MoistAir unit (I don't have the model number handy). It got the highest rating by Consumers Report of all the models they tested (which unfortunately weren't many). It's very quiet on low. So far, so good.

Hi you should have around 40 to 50 % humidity in your house. You don't want to much humidity!! 40 to 50% IS a good start.
Just what I think.

i'm leaning towards this vornado unit.
5 year warranty and it draws heat from the ceiling and helps even out room temps.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...inkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B001EB9YGK

it's rated at 1000 sq. feet. so for us ,that means whole house.

Product Description
Vornado provides whole room humidification. By incorporating Vornado's signature Vortex technology,
the Vornado Evaporative Humidifier moves large volumes of harsh, dry air through the unit
and then pushes the moistened air further out into the room providing complete and even huimidification.
It also recovers and circulates heat off of the ceiling for even room temperature.
Delivers automatic humidity control with built in humidistat.
Easy to use push button panel allows you to choose your desired humidiity level and fan speed.
Provides coverage up to 1000 sq ft. 5 year limited warranty

These cold nights has really made the air in house dry. I'm going to need a whole house humidifier for 2300ish sq ft house. Any recommendation?

I have the same unit. When I bought mine, Sears wanted $179 for it. I got the same machine at Lowes for $149. It's Essick branded instead of Kenmore. Glad Sears lowered their price.

It works great. I have it in the living room with the stove and got a few humidistat's around and I have proper humidity levels in the house.

I have the same unit. Works fine, a bit noisy above the lowest speed.

are there any that connect to a water supply to auto-fill?

i want one that sits in a room (not a basement) that has this feature and i cant seem to find one. i have the moistaire 0800 from lowes. its been great, works hard. no problems for 4 yrs but im getting tired of lugging water to it 3x/day on the brutally cold days.
