Lost power last night around midnight. Went out, started the motorhome's generator, switched the house over and went back to bed. Been running on the genny ever since. It could be worse, I suppose. We're nice and warm but have no cable or phone. Thank God I have an air card for the computer. Our Granddaughter is watching a movie and I'm listening to the Pat's game...(Who are getting their butts kicked by Pittsburg)

For those of you affected by the storm, our thoughts are with you. I hope that there is not too much damage and that things can return to normal as quickly as possible.

Ah yup. I was looking at generators on craiglslist last night. Then went out to walk the dog and nearly pissed myself when a tree branch exploded on the power lines next door. Luckily the local power co had me back on in less then 2 hrs. Not sure if that means I should or shouldn't get a generator.

I sort of wish the power was still out so I couldn't watch this Pats game. Horrible.

Been thinking about all of you folks all day. Stay safe and warm everybody.

Glad to hear you're warm! Lost power for three hours
in the wee hours of the morning. Was back up before
sunrise so I didn't have to mess with the genny.
Hope u get your power back soon. Yeah the Pats
r stinking tonight. :-(

Hope everyone gets their power back soon. The pats are getting their a$$es handed to them.

Damn, who would have thought that we would be dealing with this weather on 10/30/11. I am one of the lucky ones, lost power for a short time overnight, but I too had it this morning. 16 inches of snow and no cable/internet for part of the day. Overall I was lucky. I know of others who are not so lucky.
Hope everyone is safe and warm, one way or another.

Oh yeah, Pats stunk up bad today.

Running on the generator and it sounds like we might be for a while. Cable's out, but for some reason my fiber optic internet is working. (not complaining). A tree fell on my boat, I've got trees and limbs down all over the place so my wife and I headed north this afternoon and took a snowmobile ride to forget our problems. Then we came home. :-(

At least we're warm. :)

I feel for you guys on the East coast...Horrible storm!!!

But I think you meant watching the Pittsbbirgh game!!!

Ran on generator power for about 7 hours today.
Stove kept the house nice and toasty without a hiccup.

Power been out since yesterday around 5pm .. mess everywhere reminds me of the tornado with all the trees down... Need to buy generator...none or come up with a way to run pellet stove with battery ...
Thank god for the woodstove as that's keeping us and some neighbors warm...
We camp a lot so we have stuff ... My new toy will be a genny as soon as they get back into stock!
Stay safe everyone

Just got our power back a while ago, it was out for 2 days. Ran the genny for a few hours a day, just enough to run the heat and well pump. Gasoline is scarce around here, drove 50 miles to Lowell Mass. to get gas. Power was on when we got back! I was tempted to try the St Croix on the generator power, but was concerned the dirty power would damage the control board, so I resisted.

Well, we got our power back during the night last night and the cable came on right after I got home from work. Life is good! I put another 40 hours on the genny without a hitch. It's nice to be back. Hope everyone gets power back soon!

Shouldn't use genny on a stove?

I'm not sure. I seem to remember it being posted here that a generator was causing odd noises to come from the stove's motors, probably because the power is "dirty" and confuses the triacs that drive the motors. I hope someone will chime in with some facts. A search on this forum might yield some info, too. Certain generators (inverter types?) put out cleaner power, as do some UPS's.
I just didn't want to take the chance that my antique generator (yeah, it's gotta be 25 years old by now) would do some damage to my stove's control.

I too lost power Saturday evening around 8PM. I have been running our generator to keep our pellet stove running ever since. I know generator power is "dirty" so I made sure to plug all of my electronics into a decent surge protector. Our stove has run fine thus far and I haven't noticed any strange noises coming from the stove or motors. I am hoping this setup will keep us warm until PSNH restores power sometime on Thursday or Friday evening. I am not complaining because I know a lot of others are much worse off.

My prayers go out to anyone still trying to stay warm and dry.

All you guys buying generators are going to guarantee you won't have another power outage to use your nice new genny! :p After a 3 day outage about 4 years ago, I went out and bought a generator. Haven't had so much as a brown out since! :) I run it about 30min every month to keep it lubed. Change the oil once/year. I guess the joke's on me.

That works for me anything to insure the juice flows.

I was hoping that applied to the bright and shinny snowblower I bought when I moved in here, unfortunately it didn't work that way at all.

In the last 5 years, I have put almost 400 hours on my generator. Amazing! I heard on the radio today that the power companies cut back on their maintenance budget that paid to remove tree branches and other potential hazards. They said they saved millions of dollars even considering the emergency repairs they have to make after a storm. Our rates have gone up, and the service has gone down. Kinda made me mad. We never had this many long lasting power failures before, so the report made sense.

I don't have a pure sine wave genny either. That said, I have never had a problem with anything using that electricity. Maybe it's because I have a "dumb" stove?
