It spun it's last time and expired at 5:25pm ET. Services will be held Tuesday morning by the garbage can.

Did the fan get overheated at some point or has it always been operated in the correct temp range (400-650°F) ?

Amazon has a variety of those peltier thermoelectric modules, too. You can get one for about half the price as the one show on ebay shipping included.

The one in the amazon link is a cooler. The one on eBay is a generator.

Just sayin...

Edit: Just checked. They swing both ways.

I kept it within the recommended range.

I'll give the Amazon ones a try.

Yup, apply heat and it generates power. Apply power and it will cool.

I'm glad to hear they can be rebuilt. Does caframo sell parts or can we tell exactly what to get upon disassembly? I am shocked to hear it only lasted 3 years.

Sorry about your ecofan. We keep two of them on the stove, it makes it took likes its going to take off and amuses me. Don't know how much air they move, but the image of my stove going off for an adventure makes me smile.

I plan on fixing it with the above links, but it's no big loss if it doesn't work. I bought it out of desperation on the first year of burning in the hopes that I could heat more of the house. Turned out I just needed another 115,000 claimed BTUs... :shut:

I have the ecofan plus, also got it in 2008, I have had it over 900 several times ( not saying thats good for it) and it still runs great except it doesn't really wanna start itself, but once stove top hits bout 250 a lil nudge will get her running.

you guys got me thinking , i might play around with a "teg" powered pellet stove, maybe a battery onboard and teg recharge off exhaust heat to hold the battery at a charged level. would be pretty cool to have a self powered pellet stove, im gonna have to play with that idea some

Ecofan, a woodstove fan. A fan barely alive.
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic wood stove fan. Ecofan will be that fan. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Brilliant. It would (if feasible/doable) eliminate the single most frequently mentioned drawback to pellet stoves...no heat when the power goes out. Nice to "see" you, Mike. Rick

thats kinda the idea's birth, i have to research power needs and see if it can be done effectively. obviously would want to keep costs down to make it practical gonna need to look at DC motors (all we currently use are AC , as well as a simple control system. its just an idea at this time but im grinding on it when i have timwe to think about it. if i can run everything off a 12 volt battery like a lawn motor sized one (aproved for indoors is gonna be an issue as well but im sure they are availible) then rack up a few of these teg generators to soak heat from the exhaust to constantly top off the battery when in use im thinking i can come up with a self sustaining power source generated by the stove itself. maybe come up with a connection to tie into PV as well my want is to make this thing not have to use any house power at all. i think i can do it but i gotta talk the boss into letting me spend some money on somthing completely new to us in order to make it happen

Very cool, Mike...I love it. Best of luck, and let us know from time to time where it's heading. Rick

Cool idea....you would probably need some sort of small battery just to get the pellet stove running, but a small dc motor should keep it operable while the pellet stove is at running temps....how cool would that be, a pellet stove that has its own power source.

And the 25-TEG is born.
