exactly. i hear there is a new owner for the mill.
more byproduct for making pellets too!

The whole state is hoping so, but it ain't over 'til it's over, we've seen this happen time after time over the years. Keep your fingers crossed.

Just because a generator has a larger capacity then the load on it doesn't mean it will use as much fuel as it would if it was running at full load. There will be a basic running at idle fuel consumption but running a 2200 watt generator at 30% won't make it a fuel guzzler.I would guess it would probably run at 40% fuel comsumption as compared to full load.

If you have access to aviation 100LL gasoline you can store it in a metal container for 3 years without it degrading or going bad. It will run small engines just fine.

Didn't know that....good info.

Don't know what the max. storage time might be, but my neighbor has 4-5Gal gas cans and puts Stabil in them. They have been good even after 6 months, and then he just pours them in his car and goes and gets fresh stuff. 20 gal will last a LONG time in a small-medium genny running at 40-50% load.

On the Thursday before Irene hit, I went to two Home Depot's and one Lowe's. The biggest gas can I could find was a 2.5 gallon. The other two places only had 1 gallon cans. This reminds me that i need to find another 5 gallon can or two.

Try local auto parts store (AutoZone, Advance Auto, etc).

K-mart, Sears too.

i just found out the generac ix series are actually chinese made and have tons of really bad reviews.
i just can't afford a honda.
there is a briggs and stratton 2000w in the enclosed portable style. it sells for $649 on amazon.

actually. the powerhorse is looking pretty good to me now.
it is made in china. but evidently had been developed and extensively tested in the us.
parts and service seem to be readily available and the reviews seem really very good.
2 year warranty.
a 4 gallon tank is nice. and it's still a pretty small economical motor.

hopefully we don't have an outage by the time i make up my mind

I bought during Irene a Briggs & Stratton storm responder 5500 watt. Genny. It does most of the necessities for the house. I currently have double surge protection for the stove, but nothing has happened yet. The generator I got from TSC for 799.99 it has a 7 gallon tank and last about 12 hours on full.

Check out Electric Generators website. I just got a 6500 w from them tax free & free shipping for $779. It's a Generac with fantastic reviews & the site is also recommended by Consumer Reports. Widest & lowest prices anywhere.

Maybe this is a dumb question but is there anything you can put between aa generator and you stove to " clean up " the electricty?

not a dumb question at all.
someone else will have to confirm this. but i think you just need a power inverter.
not sure of the details of matching the inverter to a given genny.

but yeah. i *think* it's doable.
that's what is happening on these inverter gennys afaik. they just have the inverter onboard. (again, afaik)

. Its very hard to buy gas in CT hours of a wait. Buy a propane or Nat gas
