I feel your pain. On a similar note, I just noticed that because my new stove is about 100x bigger, that I have to reach in to about my armpit to load the back when I stack E/W. no more protection from the welding gloves!

(BTW, i tend to exaggerate, but you get the idea)

I thought 'first burn' meant first fire....sorry to hear. Those andirons are a hazard!

I always use gloves, but I'll get a burn at some point in the season. Probably melt a fleece sleeve or two, as well.

Got bit by the door on Saturday

Door hinges on the right - wood stored on the right - dumb operator reaches around door to get wood :shut: :shut: :shut:

One down, more to come

Still less painful than a $730 oil fillup :bug:

Yep...I gots my first burn .... :shut:
pretty easy to do on the right big ole 30.....that sucker is deep...

I NEVER come in contact with the side of the stove, except that one time, every year, when I say, screw it I NEVER come in contact with the side of the door I am not putting on those gloves this time.

Yep every year it seems, every freaking year, apparently, I need to learn the hard way over and over and over again. :)

I get it in that spot all the time...it is right where the welding glove ends....dammit, I need gloves up past my elbow....
:red:

yup, gonna bite you eventually. got a couple of good scars where i touched my forearm to the stove when loading the back. gloves were almost long enough.....i just consider it a yearly bonding ritual between the stove and me.

I burned the tip of my finger on Saturday. I was explaining secondary combustion to my son and while pointing to it I touched the glass. There was a nice little sizzle. I guess I did too good of a job cleaning the glass earlier in the day.

Note to self, hot glass is closer that it appears.

Geez, gal, that thing looks nasty! You also look like you have some slight radiation burns on the rest of the arm, just above your bling. Hope that's the stove and not work related. ;-)

I had phlebitis in that arm and the hand and forearm never looked the same after...kinda "purple" in color.....
along with scars from my first burning season... :shut:

I heard that you should put lemon juice on it or rub salt into it to make it heal fast! LOL :ahhh:

No lemon juice and no salt...
If you guys get a burn apply Vitamin E oil....I ran out, but got some today...
I guess this makes me an official "Trophy Wife"....Eh? :-/ ;-)

holy crap gamma! have him load the stove!!!
i haven't used the gloves yet, but we're only at the cottage on the weekends now. i too have got tagged a couple times, but nowhere near that bad....

I have never, ever, burned myself on either of my stoves.

(And if you believe that, I have some very special deals to offer you. %-P )

The 30 is my baby....I load it....and I start the fires when necessary now during the shoulder season...
He brings in the wood (some of the time  )....and I operate it.... :)
I have very long arms....are there X-Long welders gloves? I need them to come up to my elbows..
I gotta find them dammit.....

I consider it progress when I make it through an entire season without banging my head on the mantel of the walk-in fireplace.

Who wears fleece in the house . . . T-shirts and boxer shorts for me . . . fleece would be way too warm. ;)

But yeah . . . gloves are always a good idea . . . but I still get the occasional burn when I reach too far inside and get a burn on the forearm where the glove doesn't reach . . . then again . . . if I was wearing fleece I bet I wouldn't get burned. ;)
