Well, I'm finally done (mostly).

Last winter our house was a tad on the cool side. We had this big empty living room (we have the luxury of having 3) at the front of our house and nothing in it. It was at that point I decided to completely renovate the room, with the focus being a new stove. I'm a carpenter and therefore chose to complete all of the work myself. I completed the project in numerous stages, starting last winter and finishing just a week ago.

This is what we started with (pic from previous owner).

The first thing I did was repaint and then rip out all of the old carpet and beef up the subfloor.

After I completed the flooring, the project took a backseat for quite awhile. I hadn't picked out a new stove yet and the winter was coming to an end, so this project was put on pause to focus on other outdoor projects (New Roof being the biggest one)

We were getting into September and I found a Used BK Princess for sale at a good price, which I bought and thus re-energized me to get back to work. I decided to custom build a feature wall to match some display shelves I had previously built. Approx 800 individual pieces and countless hours putting it together.

How it looked after a couple coats of walnut gel stain. The missing blocks will be installed after the wall is in place to hide the fasteners.

48"x64" Polished Porcelain Raised Hearth. The hearth was constructed with a rigid base of 2x12s ripped to 10 1/2", joists at 12" OC, with cross bracing in between. Couple layers of ply, followed by a couple layers of cement board and then 8x16" Tile.

At this point, the only thing left to do was install the new chimney and then get everything in place. I don't have any pictures of the chimney install, so I'll just skip to the finished product. You can also see here the display shelves I mentioned earlier.

All in all, I'm very happy with how everything turned out, although I've got a few little issues with the stove I'm still figuring out. Any questions/comments are welcome.

Looks fantastic... That wall had to take forever!!! You are a talented individual. You should be proud. Very proud...

Also.. Nice Mulies.. Our Whitetail are just starting the Rut. I have seen 3 BIG ones run in front of my car on the way into work (Live in Boonies, Work in City/Cleveland) that is almost 60 miles from my house. lots of miles to see lots of deer..

Great job.... And the Wood HH in the background shows you had your $hit together and had wood before woodstove.

Its nice doing projects like that around your own house!! this is how I usually spend my vacations, I usually spend more than if I would have gone to Europe. Looks good, nice job!! My next job @ home is going to be a wood shed appendage off my living room accessible by a weather door so shed can be loaded from the outside by tractor, and then accessed from inside right near the stove. Because my house guest AKA Wife gets mad when i wreck the place hauling wood in. Key points being: easy from shed to stove and no more wood in house.

That is so beautiful. I'm sure you and your family are going to enjoy it. I love the feature wall and the use of the ceramic tiles. It's all in all just really appealing and obviously well thought out. Nice looking stove too! Enjoy!

I'm a carpenter by trade... I've just always loved this picture... Men At Work, you know.

Thank you all for the kind words. I still have to get some furniture for the room and build a coffee table, but I'm really happy with the way everything turned out.
