Made a trip to the TSC in Sussex NJ (little more than 20 mi from home) because they have Eco Bricks on sale for $2.99 for an 8-pack/24 lbs.

I'm short on wood this year because lots of it is half seasoned Ash from a large dead standing tree I dropped in my yard. I'll be mixing the bricks in with this wood.

Had never been to TSC. I was hoping it wouldn't be another big box store in a giant big box store mall. Indeed it wasn't. Actually a fairly small stand alone building.Walked up to the door and there were pallets of the Ecos in front of the store. Went inside and spoke to a clerk. "Just tell the cashier how many you want and on the way out use the cart and dump them in you car." "Oh, like the old days, sez I" "Yep comes the reply, we trust people."

I bought 20 packs but it's too warm in the next few days for a fire. Very pleasant experience indeed. Will be going back to TSC.

If these are the same light tan color "ECO Bricks" with the name etched into each brick, ...........I tried em..........they didn't impress me.

I seem to recall that they were hard to get going and didn't burn like I'd like, and left more chunky ash.

I used them last year after an ice storm and most wood was not usable. I thought they worked great. Only use a few at a time, they burn hotter than cord wood. They have less moisture too, so they get you to the shut down stage quicker.

I'm looking forward to giving them a test burn - Will add my impression to the mix.

I might be interested in getting some. What is TSC? What town?

TSC = Tractor Supply Company

You mean you probably walked right passed that Speeco rack & pinion splitter for $1,600? Talk of the town on another list.

I've tried a variety of these bricks from the US and Canada and I have to say the ones I get at TSC are the best ones yet. I mix a couple in to fill in the smaller gaps on my overnight loads, usually NS. I've tried others and some expand to quick and turn to dust in less than two hours. I've never had any luck with log shaped ones by the way, I just don't think they get compressed enough. While the TSC bricks may be harder to light and not great as starters they have worked great for me when burned with cord wood with a good coal bed. If you can get them for $2.99 a pack they are a good deal too. I recently bought Bio Blocks (3 per pack but about the same overall volume as and 8 pack of the bricks) for $2.99 at TSC and am trying those out now. Again, mixing them in with cord wood. So far so good, not sure I like them as much as the brick but still experimenting.

They burned great in my Vigilant, so I'll bet you'll like them in yours. Pretty expensive compared to cordwood, but if they get your marginal wood going nice and hot it's worth it.

HA HA HA!!! :lol:

Eco bricks must be 2.99 everywhere except Maryland. Price here is 3.99.
Must admit, they are great when you need dry wood. I have 2.5 cords of less than perfect wood and I plan to get four more, but that will be for next year and the year after. This year, I have been burning the bricks along with the "driest" wood I have, about 40/60.
I like TSC too, they have a lot of neat sales around the holidays for stocking stuffers, and their cat litter is unscented. Hard to get unscented in clumping litter.
