I'm looking to get a thermostat for my stove, and everything i'm seeing seems to be 3 or 4 open wires. But, my stove appears to accept a cat-5 looking 'network' cable. What am i missing? is there a keyword or phrase i should be looking for when shopping to get the right plug

If you are refering to the plug that looks like a phone cable plug, that one is for plugging in the diagnostics box for troubleshooting. There is 2 small set screws on the back side of the control board located next to the connector for the wire harness. There should be a jumper connecting the two. Remove the jumper and plug in your wires for the thermostat. It will only accept a 2 wire thermostat cord.

Ah, ok. Yes, i have a jumper. My assumption was to just remove the jumper, but now it makes sense that the thermostat goes there instead of the jumper.

thanks!

Your welcome. Enjoy the heat! I hope this early october snow storm is not a sign of things to come this winter!

I bought a thermostat today and now i have no idea how to hook it up.

Both manuals (the unit and my stove) are borderline useless and simply say to connect it to the correct plug.... ok, but what is correct?

I have
A B
on the back of the stove and
B O G Y W N/A R RC
on the unit to connect wires to.

What goes where?

And should the fan switch set to oil/gas or electric? My understanding is that this is for the heat pump/fan, so i assume i should set this to the oil/gas selction, as there is no seperate fan control.

No wires came with the unit either. I have some misc wire in the garage that i mostly used for car electronics. It's about 12 or 14 g if i remember correctly. I assume that will be ok? These holes look pretty small, so it may even be too big.

Thanks

Try W and R. Most stats are labeled RH, but since I see RC (for A/C connection), I'll assume that the plain R is the other connection for heat.

What brand & model of stat??

I have the basic Honeywell thermostat running my Lennox Montage and the wire I used has a red and white. I used the R and W on my thermostat and it has been working great for 3 years. You should me all set. For the winslow......the complications I have run into is when people are using a wireless thermostat. If the R and W isnt working right, try switching the R to the B. Let us know how you make out.

ok, we have success. It dropped down to setting 1 after it broke my set temp, and i just cranked up the set temp and it fired up to setting 2 again :) w00 h000!!!!

Now, to figure out how to perma-install this. Right now, it's just dangling wires and hanging on my mantel.
