We had our new stove installed a couple of months ago and the weather is now cool enough that we are able to give it a good workout. We could not be happier with the heat output but I have noticed that there is quite a bit of soot building up on mostly the left side of the glass panel. I cleaned it Friday but after 4-5 hours of run time, it is forming on the glass again. Everything looks good except for the flame on that left side, it is kind of tall and lazy and yellow with an orange tip. The LP conversion kit is installed, the intake air restrictor is closed and the exhaust restrictor is in position "B" per the chart in the manual. I have moved the air shutter all the way forward for maximum air and that helped a bit but did not cure the sooting problem. I plan on calling our dealer tomorrow but also wanted to see what you guys think.
Thanks,
Randy

Shut it down or at least let it cool down & pull the glass.
Check to see if the burner is seated all the way straight
back against the burner orifice & not cocked to either side.
If you check the manual, I believe it says there has to
be 1/2" gap at the front of the burner..
You may hafta loosen the air shutter screw to move
the burner & HOLD the burner when you reposition the air
shutter to the full open position.
Give that a shot & let us know how it works...

Thanks so much for the suggestion Bob, I will look at that first thing in the morning. I would do it now but my wife won't let me because she's afraid I will mess something up and we wouldn't be able to use the stove this evening. After 35 years of marriage I don't know where she would get an idea like that :). I don't see that 1/2" gap you mentioned in my manual, it just says that properly seated, the burner plate will be engaged at its front corners with the two support brackets but I do remember that the installer had some trouble getting the burner out to install the conversion kit. I will post back tomorrow and let you know what I find.

Is this a horizontal termination? If so, how long is the run from the back of the stove to the cap?

Great news, in the short time that we were able to use the stove this afternoon it looks like the sooting problem has been fixed. I'm not really sure what I did to fix it though. I pulled everything out like Bob suggested and inspected the burner alignment but that seemed to be okay as far as I could tell. I pulled it out and reseated it anyway and then put it all back together. When we fired it off, it was obvious right away that the flame was different and after 20 minutes or so it looked great without that tall lazy flame on the left. The only thing that I can think that changed was maybe the placement of all the little ember pieces, could that effect the flame? Anyway, thanks again to Bob for the advice and giving me the nerve to dig into this thing.

Glad everything worked out for you.
That Sebago is a nice unit & should keep
you toasty this heating season...
