Ok Im back, and another question with our Whitfield Advantage Serial number 55427. We went and purchased a OAK thinking this was the problem with a tall flame, black glass and the pellets filling up in the burnpot. Our question is....when we take out the ashpan we can see the hole for the outside air pipe, however there is a metal plate there. If the old owner didn't use the Outside Air, shouldn't this plate be removed or bent just a bit, looks to us that it wouldn't make any sense installing the OAK up to a metal plate?? Thanks everyone.....

Sure sounds like that plate should be removed. Try bending it open some, and see what it does.

I have two Whitfield Advantage stoves and know what your talking about, that metal plate is meant to be there. Have you tried adjusting the damper rod? Also, I assume you cleaned your stove completely, removing baffle plates and cleaning behind them, etc.?

oh yes have cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more. Just doesn't make sense to have an outside air pipe and have it blocked by a metal plate. Going to try and get it out tonight. Thanks again...

Most likely a low limit switch ( AKA Proof Of Fire switch ) that fails to close during warm up. There's some very useful info here at Hearthtools.com addressing troubleshooting of Whitfield stoves:

I've worked on many Whitfield stoves, Can you post a photo of this plate. Does your stove have auto ignite? I've had stoves that you could add auto ignite, there's a plug that can be removed, is this what your talking about. Just remember you have one of the best pellet stove ever made, so don't give up on her.
