Goodbye Gloking, Hello Harman

My beloved Gloking pellet stove is out of manufacture and wearing out. I bought it used 4 years ago and completely overhauled it prior to installing it. The beauty was a Cadillac in it's day. Rotron fans with ball bearings, built solid as a rock with advanced electronic control for the day.

I just bought a new Harman Advance with all the latest automatic gadgetry except automatic pellet refill. Wasn't cheap, $3100 in Bend, Oregon. Dang I hate to spend that kind of money for something that has nothing to do with fishing! It's due to be delivered next week.

After studying the specs I do have a question. It seems that the center of the exhaust is only 7.75" off the deck. My Gloking exhaust is 18.5"! The present outlet is connected to a 3" cleanout "T" The top of the "T" transitions to 4" vertical stack that goes straight up and out the roof. With a 7.75 to center outlet on the Harmon the bottom of the "T" would only be 1.5 " off the deck. Not near enough to plug my shop vac into to punch out the stack from the roof.

What's the fix??

That way you can plug the shop vac into the side of the T. Or put a bag there if you blow from the roof.

I'm just guessing. I've never had a pellet stove.

If I position it like this ╩ the clean out would face the wall and be to close. I might could move the stove sideways a bit, put it on a 45º and add a 45º elbow but sure don't like the idea as the pad would have to be moved also.

The new Harmen Advance arrived yesterday. It was also , windy. and snowing. Getting around the cleanout "T" was easy once it was setting in place. By the time I got the stack all connected up and sealed and did a little cleanup the house was down to 60º. Turned it on and as advertised the fire started on it's own a few minutes later. Big fire and the heat poured out! as soon as the temperature reached about set point the fire dimimished and the temperature stayed at 72º. This morning I got up to an outside temperature of 19º. The house temperature was still 72º! I could get to liking this!

Well, for that much money it ought to look good! :lol: Actually I was rather taken by the appearance also. It looks a lot like my old Gloking.

I have burned it continiously since it was installed Wednesday and to date only a small area of brown on the left glass panel. Last night the OSA was a cool 16º and the house stayed at 73º, just where I set it. I'm very impressed with the way it modulates the fire in accordance with the difference in room temperature and setpoint.

The log kit was out of stock but the dealer called me last evening and said it was in. It is a $90.00 option but was thrown in to sweeten the deal. I'll report on it and put up a picture when it's installed. Also I'm waiting for the weather to warm up during the day to see how it operates as far as automatic shutdown and startup are called for.

The cermac log arrived as promised. It mounts to a sheetmetal shelf that screws to the door. I was not impressed with it and was about to take it out when SWMBO saw it and exclaimed, "Oh that looks so much better". The stove is working well as advertised. My only negative comment so far is that the distribution fan is noisey.
