So Cent ALASKA
We've had winter come on strong. Teens to mid 20s & some snow.
It's a dry snow so when the wind come, most if it will go somewhere.
But kinda nice to have the wood shed full VS snow covered stacks.
Don't know if Ill get back to the wood cutting area before spring, the road will be ice. But we may get a warm spell & make it do-able.
More snow forecast'd,

Looks great. It is a nice feeling to know that you will be warm this winter.........and nice to know that most of your wood is dry under roof as well........

If it were me, I'd be kicking back with a good book by the woodstove with a nice glass of some brown liquid over ice......

ain't no lookin back now, bogy-it's here for the duration!!
i'll be getting mine tomorrow evening, although i don't think it will stick. the ground is not frozen yet.
wood shed sure would help is right!

Dave, always like your pics. That kind of snow shuts down the east coast for at least a day!

I looked and cannot find any 'before' pictures of my wood piles/ sheds, but here is the after's. (Hopefully they are shrunk enough to work here.) Each shed holds about 2.75 cords the way they are currently configured.

My 'kid' just recently found the COOLEST thing that we've added here! I (we) added solar powered, motion sensor lights to these sheds, so there is no more headlamps required if we need to go out to the sheds in the dark. Sorry, the pic's from my phone of the night lighting is just not worth attaching yet.

Thanks

fishinpa: Very nice sheds:: I remember those days prior to the wood shed :)
PS, what's up with the Steelers? Eagles?

Remembering : AHH yes tarps, tied down/weighted down, still get blown off & shredded., wet snow melts & then freezes the stack together, Ahhh the memories.

That's a GREAT idea! Can't tell you how many times I've been stumblin', bumblin', rumblin' to/from our wood piles.

I (and my wife) do NOT miss those days! We don't get all that much snow here, but wind and rain made getting wood ZERO fun. That was the main driver for building our shed past this summer. Stay safe and warm!

Let me (well us) know how the solar sensor lights work . . . I was thinking about doing the same since by the time I get home at night it's pretty dark . . . usually I just fill up the rack on the porch and pull the wood from there . . . but sometimes it's nice to be able to get the wood right from the woodshed.

Dave, your pictures remind us that it won't be long until our place looks white like yours does.

I wish my woodshed was as full as yours. :( We do have lights though. :)
We have ropelights hooked up to a motion detector. The woodshed roof overhang crowds the driveway, and the lights help when pulling into the driveways at night.

That's an old picture, taken when I had more time for wood gathering. :-S

Looks nice Dave. Nice to have that covered. I never get tired of looking at nicely stacked wood. My wife recently told me to feel free to make a nice stack on the front porch, where we don't usually put it or need it, because she likes how nice it looks. We live out in the country, both love it, and she likes the looks of the stacks I make outside.

Ja, that's how I should have made mine... twice as long and half as deep.

I kinda like the look. I just know the wind is going to pick up & the nice pretty snow will be gone.
Do you get your first snow the 1st week of Dec? (as an average) Snow for Christmas usually?
I know that climate change has made a difference here, we seem to get more wind & less snow.
Having this snow hang around would be good, the frost wouldn't go so deep.
Wood here gets "freeze dried" & seasons quit a bit thru the winter, same for the grass in the yard, nice yards in the spring if the snow stays all winter. (But also more mosquitoes)

You still have the "gold standard for wood shed!! Now with the light rope, you've gone '"up-town", great idea.
A little bit of light with snow, brightens it up pretty good.
Next year, I may add a power line out to it with some lights.
Is that the "Kindling bucket" in the picture?

Thanks.
My shed is more a cover than a shed, open all sides. Good air circulation & soooo much better than the tarps I used to use.
Makes the wood look "Kept", as my wife says.

Dave, can you load/unload from both front and back of the shed or front only? Do you remove/replenish FIFO or LIFO? On my shed I purposefully made it so I could access the back to get to "older" wood.

Yes, but not as much room to get the trailer around the back side.
I thought about that, some wood in the back is a few months older than the front stuff ,
but I plan on it being there 2 years so I don't know if there will be much difference in the dryness.
The "Plan" is to empty one section each season, fill it back up & have 2 years for it to season & all of it be dry in 2 years.
Last seasons pic, March 2011, from the back side, as this section is getting emptied:

" traumatic Pre-woodshed disorder" ?
Treatment: go get a load of dry wood from the wood shed & load the stove, watch it burn for a few hours , then look out & stare at the wood shed for 10 minutes.
You're Cured LOL

Great set up! I may need to look into building something soon.

The lights work great! The motion sensors are a little more sensitive than I would like them to be though.

I have one single beam pointed so that it lights up the path from the driveway to the sheds, then each shed has a 2 beam unit pointing down/in to light up 'the whole' shed. What I am not sure about is how well they are going to charge with days of only a few hours of sunlight coming.

I kind of have a little work-around for this too. I am big on nimh rechargeables, and these take 3aaa's each, so I always have spares. I have not had to externally charge any of these yet, but being a common battery, I considered it a win/win right out of the gate.

I have one of the 112's and 2 of the 113's

Thanks for the pics Dave. You reminded me to get psyched up for the winter exercise. (Shoveling.) UUUUGGGG. I need to break down and buy a snow blower one of these winters. But, it is like c/s/s. Good exercise.
