Ok, i'm now a believer in the difference of dry wood. Lit up the insert for the first time this year using the same pine I burned with last year. Wow, what a difference! Last year my blower temps out of the top maxed out at around 220, and would cruise at 180-200. Today I maxed out at 310 before I dialed the air back to cool it down. Cruising stayed at 280-300. even when it started to coal I was at 250. Fire is now late coal stage (if I needed more heat I would have added wood long ago) and still at 220. I had a hard time heating this place last year when the temps dropped into the 20's. I'm thinking this will make a HUGE difference, especially with the newly insulated chimney and other insulation improvements to the house...
