I like Okies, and barefoot, I can get them for 300 a ton. What would you buy?
What is the best bang for your buck!!

300 sounds like a lot for Okies. Even a lot for Barefoot, but Barefoot are a little harder to find so more expensive. For me it would be a no-brainer. I loved the Barefoot so far and the Okies are hot but had some other issues. I paid more for the Barefoot than Okies. I did some recent comparing here and here.

Neither, for that price....that $$ is way high. :bug:

Do some more shopping/calling around.

Got a place up here in Southern NH selling Okies for about $360

I have burned pellets for 4 years. I always end up with different pellets every year, bought from different sources. And you know what, each year the result is the same--4 tons used. I shop by price.

$300 and $360 for Okies, sort of reminds me of the government paying $16 for a muffin. Good pellet, yes, but the profit of a big bank! There again, they will charge whatever the traffic will bear.

So what should I be paying for Barefoot and okies ? Around hear that not a bad price this time of year.
Or can someone tell me were to find them for less?
THANKS !!!

Well I can get Cubex for $279/ton (Okies are at $299/ton and Barefoot are MIA at the moment) and it just so happens that there is a Cubex dealer within ten miles of Gardner.

Maybe time for a change.

I have never tried oakies. So far the only thing available has been prestos, green team, stove chow , awf, and lignetics. I burned 20 bags of lignetics last year at the end of the season for $5.49 a bag. The heat was a tad greater than the others. I reaaly liked the stove chow from last year. So far the AWF pelletes are buning nice. I had 4 ton delivered of the awf and green team for $700 from Lowes. Price does matter.

HI SmokeyTheBear, Where can I buy cubex? Will love to try them.
Thanks Gabe

Thanks I will give them a try.

Need to factor delivery into the cost. I just made the same choice between Okies and Barefoot. Chose Barefoot because I already have had a very good experience with them, and haven't tried Okies. The Barefoot are coming to a bit under $300 per ton delivered. Yeah, I can make multiple runs in the car and pick up 10 bags at a time of random-brand lesser pellets at currently $5 a bag (TSC), and I've done some runs like that; or possibly cheaper at HD except the Fireside Ultras they currently stock aren't kind to my burn pot. Gas and time and labor factored in, paying an extra $1 a bag for pellets that burn hotter and cleaner, and get dropped in my yard ... not a hard choice.

My faves are Vermont, but am told by the local supplier there are "production problems" at the mill this year.

$360 for Okies?……wouldn't that be for a 1.3 ton pallet…..or $277 per ton….?????

For those prices burning dino fuel would seem cheaper to me.

I don't think so, dino juice is north of $3.30 a gallon and at that rate pellets at $396 a ton is a wash.

Yeah. I bought a pellet stove to save $$$. Definitely shop around. Some of these pellet prices are just plain ridiculous.

yes but a wash is a lose still cant beat turning the thermostat vs pellets if its a wash

Well not exactly but I'm not going to get into that matter in this thread.

Note there is almost a $100/ton difference between the $3.30 a gallon wash price and the price the OP was quoting and further that my $3.30 a gallon rate is less than what one is likely to find in New England. Currently the low price in my area is $3.43 a gallon the average price is over $3.50 a gallon.

Someone posted Tractor Supply has pellets for 179 per ton---unless your stove is too small for your house, I don't see how the super-premium brands can be objectively justified.

I'm new to this forum, but not new to burning pellets. I just got a account setup this past thursday. I have been burning pellets now for 5 years. I have a Englander stove, model 25 PDVC/55-SHP10. It requires alot of maintance but does heat nicely. I have tried alot of different brands of pellets, over the years. What seems to work decent & I like the best are Hamer's Hot Ones. They seem to throw out the best heat with low ash build up. Somersets really seem to be good also. I did try a new brand early this season that really burned good & that was Hardwood Heat pellets from TSC. Somerset was my 2nd best but hardwood heat I think were better then them. Other peelets that also were good also are turnman & pennwood. These are really the only pellets as of now that I would consider burning.

Welcome to the forum.

Just so you know, Hardwood Heat pellets are made by Hamer....same pellet in a private label bag for TSC.

Seems like the best case scenario you will get approx 11% more heat with the best pellets versus the cheapest. Based on price per BTU the expensive brands are hard to justify.

One would think so, but that isn't always the case. Funny thing about ash producing fuels, they tend to botch up the efficiency of heat exchangers.
