A buddy had two cherry trees come down during Irene; had a tree service come in to buck it and stack it in his driveway... he has a fireplace, barely uses it, didn't want the wood.

All I had to do was come haul it off. Six trips in the back of an Odyssey with the rear seat down (I need to get a trailer...). Figured about a cord, maybe? The largest rounds in the pics are about 16", two rows in the first pic...

Cool score man. That sounds sweet! The Odysseys are a great ride and workhorse. We had one for about six years. Then when it came time to move to a slightly newer model, she decided to go with a used Pilot. Those are nice as well. Now you have your work set up for a day or more. Some splitting to do there for ya.

Thanks! The Odyssey has treated us well. A 2002 with about 130K, no sign of major issues yet. Thought about a Pilot too, but with four kids, the van was a better fit for us.

I probably won't split this until early next year. What's not in the picture are about four cords split, another two waiting to be split. I don't have a large yard and I'm running out of room to work. My wife thinks I'm nuts, just let the wood offers go... but between Irene and the recent snowstorm, I've had more wood offered than ever this year... hate to turn any down!

One option is to have a hitch put on the van and rent a trailer when you need one. Of course once you have the hitch it will be hard to resist buying a trailer, but theoretically you could own just a hitch.

Nice score.
Yep, You need a trailer. If you are going to burn wood for a few years, a trailer would pay for itself in gasoline. Just start looking for a used one that meets your needs. Then if you quit, sell the trailer.

I know... I have a hitch already for a bike rack. Had a chance a month ago to use a friend's trailer to haul wood... worked great, what a difference! I have been keeping an eye on Craigslist for a used one (I hate wearing out my welcome borrowing stuff). Part of the challenge is convincing my better half I need one!

Nice...that cherry will be ready to go early next fall........love burnin cherry.

Nice haul!

Why would you wait until next year to split this wood? Get it split ASAP so that it will have time to dry and be that much better wood. Wait and it will split harder too.

I love cherry . . . my only problem is I slow down a lot while processing it . . . I keep stopping to smell the fresh splits since they smell so nice.
