Love the old guy, but wasn't too happy to hear he paid $875 to have a giant maple tree cut down in his yard - and then hauled away. He told me it was 36 inches in diameter at the bottom. That would have probably been almost 1/4 of my wood needs for 2012-13.

Ouch,

You have to tell everyone many times that you burn wood and remind often. You could have saved him alot of money. Though - that's a great price. A big tree like that would have run 3 or 4 times that in my parts.

Neighbor lady whom we were always doing favors for knows we burn. She had a couple nice oaks taken down last year. Had most ground up, but kept some nice rounds 'to make benches out of'....still there....rotting. Thanks for nothing.

Next time tell him you'll take it down for half the price.

Sorry to hear that Stegman. Oh well, there will be more wood that will come along. Keep your eyes and ears open. Hopefully, he will be the only father-in-law you have. Have a good one man. And happy burning to you.

Funny, my FIL gets me to do things so he doesn't have to pay someone. No trees to cut though. :-/

makes you wonder, huh stegman? i mean, do you think you father-in-law is on another website somewhere posting about his damn son-in-law thinking that he was going to score on some free wood???

Forgive them, for they know not what they do...

bummer maybe that was part of the deal with the tree service to take the wood. my buddy runs a tree service and he takes all the wood he cuts..... or he charges more

...we WERE always doing favors for...hahaha, I'd stop after something like that too. Pretty thoughtless on her part (provided she's not senile)!

That and a thousand other faults of mine!

Did you mention to him you could have used that wood to keep his daughter and possibly grand kids warm in the winter? If so, what was his responce?
I would gladly accept his apology in the form of a check. ;-)

Its the opposite here, they leave the wood or charge more to dispose of it, Ive picked up a lot of wood from homeowners running ads to get the wood out of their yard. Some try and charge full c/s price for the wood tree services left. I usually see their ads running for a few months.

i get calls constantly asking if i cant take wood. ya just gotta get that word out there that your the wood guy. lol. its really insane how many people call me about getting rid of wood. i guess my obsession has made it easy. everyone just knows that i love it lol.
