I recently ordered a SS insulated liner (Duraliner) to connect my insert to the chimney. I'll be using a 3 foot section of flex liner to get around the smoke shelf. The installation manual recommends insulating the section of flex liner that extends above the blockoff plate. What type of insulation should i use here?

thanks!

Rock wool. Not the pink stuff - it will degrade and potentially off-gas.

That's correct. All insulated except for a 3 foot section of flex directly above the stove. Thanks for the advice!
