When we turn the thermostat up, the stove will lite and then go out about 5 minutes later. then if we turn the t-stat down and back up, the stove runs fine. What would cause this? I couldn't find the solution using the search bar. thanx

I have seen the demo unit start up for the first time of the day and need the reset button hit because it goes out. This does seem to happen on the Heatilators and QuadraFire units once in a while.

Talk about over thinking something. Now that you said it, I remember we had to do that right after it was installed. thanx, that worked.

If I have bad, long pellets in my quad I run the risk of it not starting up right because of the lack of feed... there wont be enough flame to set off the convection fan so it goes through shut down... when I use a good pellet it never happens.

My quad was like hanks, Any pellet that didn't supply enough fuel and it missed starts. Sometimes I could open the feed gate some to eliminate the issue.

So it started doing this again. Burns for a few minutes, then goes out. If I turn the t-stat down, then right back up, it burns fine. Or if I puch the reset button, it will burn fine. Not sure what to make of it.

Check to make sure the thermocupler is at the end of the ceramic tube and the tube is placed 1" into the pot.

This is the ticket. I have a heatilator too. For the money it is in my humble opinion the best bang for the buck compared to the big box store stoves out there.

Mine did however do the same thing. I just adjusted the thermocouple to make sure it was far enough out and touching the front of the tube as kinsmann
Said. I also turned up the feed rate potentiometer on the computer per my dealers instructions. Both worked like a charm. The heatilator is a beast! And reliable as a Swiss watch.

Enjoy

Eric How come Quad does not secure the TC so it can't creep out. I wired mine in 3 years ago, got tired of pushing it in every cleaning.

I have been wondering the exact same thing. I've been thinking about putting a dab of mil pac in there to keep it from creeping out. When you say you wired it, how did you do that? Any pics?

Not pretty but works, just some safety wire I had on hand. Going on 3 yrs now.

Well, I have to say thanx for the input. Did a little work on the stove, it's been running fine.
I'm not sure it was the thermocupler coming out of the tube. It may have been a build up of ash in the tube itself. I took the assembly off, lightly wire brushed the tube and coupler, vacuumed the tube, and put back together. Turned the t-stat up and it's been running ever since.
Thanx again everyone.

Every cleaning I sand paper the carbon off the cover , been doing it from day one.

Mine has been doing the same thing.Every time I clean the coupler it works perfect for a few weeks and then mis starts.Always in the morning of course. The red light is on calling for heat and nothing.I hit the reset button and away she goes.I also took a bottle brush and cleaned the pellet shute and about a table spoon of saw dust came out.Took the vacuum switch tube of and blow the saw dust out of it to.If the thermo couple has any ash at all on it.She will not start.Maybe I will make sure it's in far enough and sand the cover. It's a work horse though. Can't complain.

Make sure you clean the inside top of your stove also.Ash will build up there also. The exhaust motor can be taken out by just loosening the screws. You don't have to take them all the way out.Loosen screws and give it a twist. It will drop out.

yeah. i brush the top of the inner door sill and the tops of the baffle plates every day.

lol. i actually brush the entire firebox. and i vac the ash off the door gasket w.o touching it.
and i lift up the plates and brush the ash out at the bottom with vac w/ the crevice tool running. if i don't just take them out altogether.
it really only takes about a minute to do all three.

what can i say? i'm basically retired anyway. i can't seem not to clean it even if i try. :)
the vac and the box w/ my cleaning stuff is only steps away on the enclosed front porch.

I'm looking a bagged vacuum next.Less ash in the air when I'm cleaning.Live and learn.

i got this at tractor supply- $99 and it has the hepa filter and a filter guard that goes over that.
the thing is quieter than the one my g/f does the floors with.

my shop vac is so old they don't make hepa filters that fit it.

*is it thread hijacking if we are still talking about the same stove? (or at least own the same one.) :) *

Thanks for the tip.I'm not sure of the hijacking thread thing. It doesn't bother me any.lol

OP here, stove is running great since I cleaned the TC tube. I like the tip on removing the exhaust blower, will do that this weekend.
So with the PS 50, does anyone see a difference in 1 type of pellet to the next? I seem to lean towards American Wood Fibers so far. Burn hot and not a whole lot of ash.

All the pellets I have burned are pretty close in temp. All I burn are Red fir pellets.Easy to get here in Idaho.Ash is more of a concern.Eureka pellets from Montana where the worst. You can see the clicker forming as it was running. It was like a giant chicken pot pie.One huge hockey puck.It blocked the Igniter hole and would not light again.had to really tug on the handle that scrapes the pot. Then I heard a brick land in the ash pan.Opened the ash tray and said,WTF.Are you kidding me.I'm burning Rocky Canyon ultra red fir pellets and they do very well for me.They smell like you just cut a tree down.

The Heatilator is the "bully" in my store. The Harman P-68 did slap it once or twice when it got a little to big for it's britches. I do not think the "little-e" has had lunch money since the CAB-50 has been installed. The CAB-50 is awesome.

I do not think there is a reson to hit the big box stores with the CAB-50 being out there.

Eric

That's a good looking stove. Other than the hopper size, and the looks of course, what is the difference between that and the ps50? BTU, price, etc
