Found this on local CL ad -Anybody familiar with this quantity of wood?

Pre cut firewood "need gone asap" (whitemarsh)

Wood was cut up two years ago. got rid of my fire place so i have no need for it i have about 3 quarts of wood

:lol:3 quarts huh.Is that distilled wood alcohol or just sawdust/shavings?

Maybe thats what it burns down to, 3 quarts of ashes. :)

Amazing how often we've seen that term here.

So, how many pints of wood are in your shed?

I agree. Sounds like he is selling used firewood.

I think four quarts makes a chord.

Hmmmm...."pints and quarts" in a wood shed just might get one in trouble w/liquor control or ATF... :)

" got rid of my fireplace"

troubles ? :)

That's how much water there is in the wood.

Im sorry but when i saw this I lost it!!!!

We're going to need to set up a Firewood Court to handle these matters. I volunteer to be Chief Justice of the Food Court.

This is why we need to go metric.

Ja, I've seen wood measured in quarts on CL before and it has been pointed out here a few times. It's just a way for them to sell not real cords (chords) and escape the wrath of the Dept. of Weights and Measures. You never know when a buyer may show up with a measure tape and a MM with DWM on their speed dial.

I am an American....I'm not gonna learn the metric system. Who cares if the rest of the world uses it. Let them change. :zip:

Side note. I am 46 and I can remember being in school and we were told that everything would be metric in a few years. I think Reagan outlawed that.

I'd be all over that CL offering but it'd be just my luck to get over there and find out it's really just Face Quarts, not dictionary quarts.

No, it'd be sold by the metric sh*t load.

BTW I love the metric system for everything but temps...

"Honey, I'm a dying in here from the heat."

"Whadda ya talking about? It's in the 20s, just like you know we both like it."

Amen! I can think in metric for everything but temp. Sometimes I even give people measurements in cubits for funsies. Odd thing those measurements...aren't horses measured by "hands" and mass in Great Brittain is in "stones"?

Yeah, a hand is 4". A 16 hand horse is a hell of a lot bigger than a 15 hand horse, so they have inch divisions. But they are expressed in writing by using a decimal point. 14.3 means 14" x 4" plus 3" more = 59" at the peak of the withers (shoulder). Really? Couldn't have picked an easier system, eh?

As far as weight is concerned, a 16 hand TB might weigh 1200 pounds while a horse only one hand shorter might be only 900 pounds. I don't know how much that is is British, they're still in the "stone" age.
