I am now into bag 8 of my Vermont Super Premium Soft Wood Pellets (got to put in a plug for Vermont) Too bad the stove can't run on Maple Syrup....Yum! Stove running great! I still need to get a Mag check to make sure my fuel/air mixture is correct. Now I need to get the proper Surge Protector. The one I have now, I don,t know if it totally covers "hot line, neutral and ground (earth) What and where can I get this? Next is a UPS? I would rather go the generator route but I have blown that budget for a bit. Again, what and where can I get this stuff and what is the cost? A couple of side notes, someone mentioned their UPS setup with 2 batteries in series...also, what about a master house surge protector ay the breaker box? Oh, and does it make sense to have a back-up igniter on hand for the eventual replacement (when my dealer says he doesn't have one in stock or I have to get someone else?) Toasty in Vermont, Bill

Thanks all! Hey IHATEPROPANE, so the 30-50 minutes on the UPS, are there units that give longer times or am I looking at a generator? How does yours work? Thanks, Bill

My "Home Improvement" UPS is still running and during the NE snowstorm (10-29-2011) that killed my power for 3 days (first time beyond 1 day) the stove ran off the UPS for 15 hours before I shut it down. It was also powering a HD cable box (HD running) and a few phantom power supplies for the first 8 hours before I unplugged them.

There are ones that last longer but the prices start to rise quickly. Basically I got it to let me shut the stove down or give me time to get the generator hooked up. All the set up is to plug the stove into the battery backup outlet. Also works as a surge protector.

A few times the power flickered enough to shut off the TV and the UPS worked flawlessly keeping the stove running.

I have simulated an outage and ran my generator through the UPS. Very consistant voltage 121/122 and hertz was 60.0

I see lots of discussion on a UPS........could someone explain to me what a UPS is?

Thanks!

"uninterruptible power supply"

Essentially, it's a battery charger, a battery, and a power inverter all in one box. You plug the box into the wall, and plug your stove into the box (or a computer, or anything else you don't want to shut off when the power goes out). There are varying sizes which will run a stove for as short as 30 mins or many hours or more if your power goes out.
