My question is this... How much wood pellets to put in burnpit before you light off the old stove on a manual start whitfield?

I use about a handful in my old Englander. Hit it with a Propane torch for a minute, then hit "On" and let'er rip.

Another way is to take a large handful, put them in a coffee can, squirt a liberal amount of cheap dollar store hand sanitizer over them, shake, let sit a minute, put in burn pot, light with match.....voila!

Just whatever I can grab in one handful. but I found it wasn't necessary, just quicker to flame. If I just turn the stove on, it will have enough pellets accumulate before the igniter turns off. Because of that, I think my stove would be good with stat but I have no knowledge how to rig one up when there is no mention of it in the manual. I'll just have wait until I can afford a new one. A stat would be really nice in the fall and spring. In the winter, I leave it on unless I am cleaning it.

I messed with those gels and various other fluids until I was introduced to the all mighty torch! One hand full of pellets in my P38.....torch for 30 secs...shut door.....Done.

I put 46 pellets in the pot on start up. If there are broken ones, I will throw those back in the hopper and replace them with whole pellets. 46 works beautifully for me but others may want to do 31.

LOL!!!!! To funny!!!!!!!!

I think it is not accurate to go by a handful. (peoples hand size varies)
Also counting out 46 or 31 or whatever is also inaccurate (pellet sizes also vary in length)
I, however line up the pellets in a line. I come up with 27.75" to be ideal.
I thought about possibly weighing them in the near future.
Hope this helps

I fill the cups in a paper egg carton with sawdust and paraffin wax. After the wax hardens, I cut the egg carton apart.

To light my stove, I place one of the wax and sawdust filled cups in the empty burn cup under the pellet chute and light it with a lighter. I turn on the stove, start the auger, it works every time.

One large hand full, or 2 small hand fulls.

I've always said, "more than a handful's a waste!"
