for those looking for an ash vac lowes has them for 80 bucks. its the small one 2.0 hp thats about the cheapest i have seen them

Menards has one for $50-$60. Not the greatest. My buddy bought one. I went with a Shop vac with HEPA and Fine filtration filter. Even with an ash vac, the stove cant be hot.

yeah Dexter i agree. my wife grabbed a shop vac at walmart for 19 and the one at lowes for 29 ( boy does she love to spend my $ ) One will go back or be a opps gift, always need those around. AND she had the ash vac in the shopping cart at lowes lol. We didnt buy it i told her only difference was the metal can and at that your getting a better motor with the shop vac

I use a 3.5 HP 8 gallon unit for the stove (also have one in the garage for car cleaning) and then a 6.5 HP 18 gallon unit for my Pellet sifter in the basement. Love the blue color of the Shop vacs from Lowes. Got my two 3.5 HP units on sale last year. They were normally $60 on sale for $30 ($29.99).

I think they work just as good (actually better, not gonna lie) than the Ash vacs. Let the stove cool down and if there is Any doubt, set the Vac outside on a non-combustible surface for a day. I have yet to have a problem and 3.5 HP sucks the ash up very well. Also having the round 3" brush attachment is nice too. I use that the most. As its like a paintbrush that wipes all the ash off (while sucking it down).

Lowes has a $79.86 shop vac on sale for $29 right now! Part of the Black Friday sale! Picked one up yesterday to clean my stove with, along with the fine cartridge filter and the drywall filter bag.

That is a great deal. Heck the filter is fifteen bucks by itself.

I got my Shop-vac last year on sale for $29.99. Got a HEPA filter and the yellow drywall bags. Works perfectly!! Just wish it blew stuff besides sucking it up.

Where does yours discharge its air???

Little slats on the top of the lid. We have a big one at work that will blow. Maybe I could bring that home!

I was wondering as I've had several over the years and they all had an air outlet where you could use it as a blower.

Even my current little on that fits on a five gallon pail does.

The one I got last year was the 14 gal. 4.5 motor. This one only has the one hole for vaccuming none for blowing.

I need to find a piece of hose that is flexible enough to go in my horizontal exhaust piping from the outside. I got rid of the dura vent, couldn't even get the clean out T loose. Was a real PITA!! I forget what this pipe is but it's black and the cleant out cap just comes undone soooo easy! I cleaned the up part of the vent really good last weekend, but could not get the hose to make the turn for the vertical venting. I have a Smoke Eater to do the chimney and it works great. Even it won't make that turn. It gets hung up. Before I had the new pipe put in, I could pull the stove out and get to the horizontal. But the guys who put the new pipe in, did it the correct way. It is siliconed and a small screw where it come out of the stove. Wish I had known of Below the Grid when I first bought my stove!! They are very good.

Example, last year I was over run with Stink bugs in the house!! The cover over the siding outside where the stove vents was never sealed! They caulked it good when they put the new pipe in and commented that it wasn't done right when first installed. Geez and I thought I had professionals do it! And only 2 stink bugs this year! LOL

I bought one of those $29 small type shop type vacs from WalMart. I picked up a HEPA filter for it. Used it several times, did the job, and I was happy. I did not use it until I shut the stove off, it cooled down and shut down.

One time I used it, and the next thing I know, it's smoking. Not that big a deal, picked it up, brought it outside, opened it up and threw it in the snow. All better, no real damage, put it back together. Used it for a couple of years. Wife always complained how the floor was sooty near the stove for a distance of about 8 feet. I figured it was just normal and from cleaning.

Well, I just happened to look inside the vacuum and I spotted a hole in the bottom. I would guess a piece of hot ash burned through the plastic. It was blowing the ash dust out that hole. I threw that vacuum in the rubbish. I then bought one of those metal canister vacuums that was made for vacuuming pellet stoves. Difference of night and day!

Those shop type vacs may work, but they are definitely not made for the job.
