It's burning again

sadly, we are out of even slightly dry wood. i curse every time the boiler kicks on.

We had a few inches of snow last week and the last 2 days have only been in the low 30s so I've had some time to try out the new Vista (went in 3/29). It is great! Keeps the whole house at 70-73 and uses very little wood to do it. My wife has taken to tending the fire late in the evenings so it has still been going good when I wake at 2:30AM to head to work. Boiler has not been on AT ALL. What a good investment. Can't wait till next winter.

I'm with you Warren! Low 20ºs here in Bend, Oregon at night and maybe 40º's in the day. The new Harmon Advance pellet runs smooth as silk. The fire size increases and decreases according to the room temperature. 5 Minutes cleaning it once a week cause I want to, not because I have to. four years ago when I replaced the wood stove with an old Glow king pellet stove I thought it couldn't get no better. Replaced the old Glow king with this new Harmon a month ago. Wow! is that nice! Premium pellets here run $140/ton. 3 tons a year and my heating bill pales compared to those around me burning Propane or using a Heat Pump. Life is good.

Down to the last few fires in my Resolute Acclaim It did a decent job the past 3 years Next up I will remove it clean it up and sell it.
The replacement is a 1999 cat Encore, used only two seasons. With a center chimney that drafts well, I, I look forward to
using 20" logs, one hour increase in burn time, 18% more heating capacity, and cleaner burning with the Cat engaged.
I plan to pick it up soon. A real good deal at $500 and only 3 miles away. I figure over the summer I will clean it up and replace some gaskets and the Cat combustor. When I bought the resolute 3 years ago, I was advised not to purchase a cat stove. I could have had an Encore for roughly the same money. Fast forward to this year, when I wittnessed a Intrepid cat stove in action. My second stove. I experienced the longer cleaner burns and great heat output for my 500 sq ft room.
It was then I realized the Cat advantages. Actully off market combustors are about 50% the price of OEM ones. Not that bad to
replace and or clean. Final wood consumption 6 cords two stoves. Still have 10- 12 cords here needing to be processed. 8 cords at least split and 2 years old. My wife tells me I got to neaten up the area. I picked up another cord this week Red and white oak from
a tree removal company clearing out wires ( free with some additional cutting) those 20 " rounds are heavy in 4' sections.
20" White oak is a real test for my Electric 12 ton splitter. (I have remodeled it to 16 tons) So far this splitter keeps amazing me as what it can do.

I'm just a little ways down the road from you and I'm dipping into my emergencey stash of pellets......was hoping to be done by now. Like the fire, hate spending $$$. At least it's not oil though.

I've got about 10 bags left. It really sucks too because they raised the price again, they went from 3.25-3.65. Damn fuel costs. I think I'll go get 3 tons, I went through 2.5 this year but the winter was still not quite normal, were coming out of a drought.

I think I had my last fires for the season this weekend. Was down in the 20's but suppose to get in the 60's and 70's next week.

Bought a Brave EZ 8 ton log splitter at Menards FOR $500. I should of done this years ago. It really rips through some tough White Oak with ease and saves my back.

Almost done with my 2nd Holz Huafen. I figure I have 5 cords in those 2 piles. Still want to collect more firewood over the spring. Maybe build a 3rd Holz Huafen.

Had a fire last night and again this morning. However, it got so hot in the house I actually left the door open. So I guess there aren't going to be many more.
