Feeling the Heat

I was wondering if anybody had come across any of these. The last time I saw any was back in 2007 or 08, at TSC. They seemed to burn hot ,but there was more ash than wood pellets.

I've seen them around a couple places. The dealer north of me charges $185 a ton for pits or $4.09 a 40 pound bag. My stove will burn them, but I haven't tried them yet. If pellet prices go up I may try some one of these seasons.

I never could see the novelty of them. I have used them when they were cheap which was almost never though I do grab the open bag ect sale now and again. Hey they smell like , well CHIT really. I sort of like the smell of wood pellets and love corn. On the other hand pits, at least to me smell like a dead litter box if you are working in the yard. As for heat I never noticed any appreciable difference between any of them. The bags themselves are a pain to stack if you have a lot of them too. Say about 1/4 higher and rounded much more when they are flat on their side.so they will tend to slide off or tip over very easily. One other thing is they feed rather noisily with my Countryside. Overall the difference sounds about as loud as a person chewing on pistachios. Again no big deal but you do definitely hear the crunch crunch each time the auger turns. Other than those things they seem to do the job about as well as anything else but that smell. You know how corn smells sort of like a popcorn stand? Well cherry pits smell like, well, definitely not burning cherry splits.

Yes, I do faintly recall they had a different kind of smell to them. I don't remember my stove having any problems burning them,as far as noise or anything.

I live about 25 miles from Traverse City, Michigan, which is the self-proclaimed "Cherry Capital" The airport is even named Cherry Capital Airport. I know that the pits are available here but figure that the processors are just trying to swll me their waste. I'd try them if they were real cheap but figure that the my stove isn't really calibrated for pits.
