After reading peoples replies regarding the question of smoothing pellets in their stove's hopper, I began to wonder if people have the same obsession with the condition of their pellet stash. Do you neatly stack your pellet bags? Do you just leave them on pallets as delivered ? Do you have a seperate structure for your pellets or do they share the garage with your dog ? Are you obsessed with counting your stash ? Do you allow strangers and family members to even touch them ? Mine are palletized as delivered but I have to admit that I'm a newbie and haven't had time to develope an attachment. :)

I use my old firewood shed to store my pellets. I can't get to the shed with the truck, so I have to pack it from truck to shed. I stack them as they come off the pallet. Next season I am going to stock up and will have to store a ton or two on my covered deck. If I were to get creative, I think I could get 4 or 5 tons in the woodshed. Problem is I still have a little under a cord of wood in the shed. Plan to use it for campfires next summer.

mine are in the basement. i will definitely oogle them if i go down there.
and yes, i keep a count on how many bags i've burned. but i think that's because i want to get the figure per day once it gets cold.

but after moving four tons off the pallets, on to the back porch, down the stairs(albiet on a slide) and onto the pallets in the bunker and carrying the pallets themselves down stairs,
i was actually making a point of stacking the last ones in a NOT neat manner.
just because i was not so much in love with pellets by that point.

(a condition that lasted roughly half an hour)

I stack mine in the garage. As far as the dog goes, he's spoiled and is usually on the couch.

Hmmm.
Mine don't get delivered I either pick them up
25 bags at a time in my Jeep or friends bring
me a ton in their truck. Either way they do
get restacked on my porch and in the garage.
I restack them the same way they are stacked
on pallets. It works well for me.
My dog does not stay in the garage. The pellets
share the garage with tools and my motorcycle
and they seem to coexist quite well.
I'm not obsessed with keeping count but do try
to have 3 1/2 to 4 tons on hand going heading into
the season so at first I do know how many bags I've got.
Wouldn't care if anyone wanted to but 7 yrs into burning
and nobody has asked to fondle them yet.
I've got work to do and no time to obsess about heating fuel
which is why I choose pellets so I don't have to worry about it.
I don't count the bags as they go in the stove. I know how
many I used in a given season just because I am aware
of how many I started out with. Anything other than that
naaaa I don't have the desire to waste time on calculating.

Good for you ...and your dog :) I'd NEVER leave my dog in a garage!

My pellets are kept on the pallets. They stay wrapped in the plastic until it is time to open a ton. I never put bags on the cement floor, and I always leave a little space between the tons. Don't now if it is important, but I think that good air floor around the stack discourages pooling of moisture. Except for the few bags kept on the glassed in porch, I keep the pellets in our detached garage. The dogs stay by our side all day long. They even follow us into the bathroom. They sleep in our bedroom, one on the end of the bed. At meal time, they hang close to the table knowing that they will get a few handouts. When we go out for a few hours, they stay in the family room with the animal channel on TV. Better yet, they don't pay taxes.

Your motorcycle should be in the house with your dog, what the hell is wrong with you?

Poor thing out there in the cold... jeesh... some people!

Mine stay on the pallets in the garage. I've had neighbors ask what they are...I tell them it's fertilizer for the grass. I only have a 1/4 acre. They get quite the puzzled look on their face until I come clean and tell them what they really are.

Our last dog was a Norwiegen Elk Hound. She had no use for a house. If it was -10 outside, she would come inside and within 10 or 15 be scratching at the door to go outside. Really great dog, loved people but loved the outdoors.

I neatly stack my pellets. Being the first year of burning them, I keep an eye on consumption.
Store them in the house. I hate anything getting wet.

I stack mine in the basement right up to the floor joists. Alternate the direction each tier and it starts neat at the bottom and just up there when the top is reached. Boy don't I wish I could just stuff the nice neat pallets someplace, I really do.

I bought my shed for my Scoot. Now it lives with the pellets. Just have to make sure there is room to get the Scoot out if I want to ride. Had a ramp built this summer from the shed to the patio. Wow, works great for the bike and will be even greater to haul pellets in with the hand truck.

the condition pellets are stored in at the manu plants would drive you all nuts. I just toss mine out in a stack/pile on the concrete in the corner of gararge.

I bring them into basement and stack on pallets the same way the org. were staked, I then re-shrink wrap to keep nice and tight. I only wrap them back up because a few years back a pallet full fell over in basement and broke my washer door.As far as my dog she hates the pellet stove she's a Great Pyrenees and the stove makes the house way to warm for her.

My 1st ton went on a pallet in the basement and 2 more tons will be delivered tomorrow. They will go in the garage but only till I move them to the basememt, probable that night. Because I level what is in the hopper whenever I check and because I count how many bags are left on the pallet every time I take a bag does not mean I have a problem does it :)

You guys crack me up!! I love all this obsessive/compulsive behavior with pellets! It must be contagious because I'm starting to behave this way and my stove isn't even installed yet! Got my first ton yesterday and rearranged the entire garage to accommodate these pellets. I unpacked the pallet and restacked everything on a wood stacker with label side facing up of the pile, top of pellet bag facing the wall. I think I even evened out the packs as I was stacking to make sure they were nice and flat. It was truly great! I'm so happy I found a forum and people to obsess with. Thanks guys!
