Boiler without circ pump on during start-up okay?

I have been wondering if I can set my circ pump to not come on untill a set temp on my econoburn 150. The control logic is there to do it, but I don't know if it is okay for the boiler to not have water circulating during warm up (does the sensor need circulating water?)

In a recent post it sounds like this is pretty common practice. My mix valve for boiler protection always draws a bit of water from the cold port, therefore when the fire is out and the boiler is cooling down it is sending a bit of 130deg water back to the top of my 190deg storage. By morning this kinda ruins stratification, so it would be great if its okay to shut down the pump at 160 on the 150 econoburn.

I have my Econoburn set at 165. I have the new controller and changed it to on at 165 it shuts off at 160. I might go up another 5 degrees.

Yours should not be sending 130 degree water anywhere except to the cold port on the mix valve.

My tank is set up like the Simplest storage method in the sticky. I have found that with my temp set at 165 and my fan on a timer to shutdown at the end of load, my cooler load return water will cool the boiler down to the 160 shutoff temp fairly soon. The boiler circuit then shuts off and stops flow through the boiler. The load circ then pulls from the tank.

Thanks gg, I will be wiring my circ into the boiler panel tonight!.

My set up is now basicly the same as the simple storage sticky as well, had it configured differently a couple months ago but the simple storage method was better. The 130deg water is the coolest in the system and is going to the cold side on the mix valve, the problem i am haveing with the boiler circ on all the time is that some cool water (130deg) always goes through the mix valve therefore some is going through the boiler and into the top on the tanks... with the boiler circ off this problem should dissappear. I was just a bit nervous that parts of the water jacket would get too hot befor the sensor saw 160deg and turned the circ on. I manualy turned off my boiler circ last night untill it was up to 160deg and things seem just fine, it also seemed to warm up faster.

Thanks again

Do you have the new or old controller?

How did you have your storage piped before?

I am pretty sure that my Danfoss is virtually closed at 130.

I beleive my controller is an older one (over 2years for sure) but it has terminals for a primary circ to come on. Factory setting was 150 i think. But it is adjustable... its now 160 and wired up, worked great this past weekend, comes on at 165 and turns off at 159.

My previous piping configuration is on a diagram i posted on here a while back, it wasnt hard to switch it to the simplified storage one as it was pretty close. My current system is the same as simple storage except my circ for the house runs all the time and has a thermostatic valve that "injects" hot water from storage anytime the water temp in the loop to the house drops below 130deg

My mix valve was "virtually" closed to lol but not closed enough for me. The pump was still pulling some thru
