Oh yes! It's good to be back out in the woods making firewood!

Gun deer season ended at sunset last night. I was out there shortly after daybreak this morning!

I saw a few of my deer pals today. I had to snap the pic real fast because they were a little skittish, but they still recognized me.

I spent most of the day just cleaning up the trails.

Got a couple loads just from small trees and limbs.

As always . . . great pics.

Great pics
Looks like a leaf crunching day. Only deer & turkey can walk thru the woods & not make noise.
Catfish & wood duck pond?

I agree quads, those deer do not look relaxed at all. Probably will be that way for about another month. Ours are the same.

Yup! Except I don't think any of the guys used that blind this year! If I was still hunting, that's where I'd be. I would even install a little woodstove in it. HA!

HAHA! I still use that round gas can. It holds the extra gas now, safely stowed in the garage where it can't run away anymore!

It was hovering right around freezing today, now well below since the sun set, so I bet they are crunchy with frost at the moment! No fish in that pond, only frogs. My buddy with the deer stand saw a wood duck once on the pond so he put up the house. So far nothing has been interested in it except a tiny little wren!

Yes, by January I'll have them nibbling on my splits again, while I'm making them!

Nice pics; wish we had a piece of land like that to work on. You are very lucky.

quads, I was hoping to get started cutting again this week but man oh man is it wet out there. Snow tonight but they have no idea how much. They've guessed from 1-2 up to 3-6. Tonight it is back down to 2-4" Probably only be some wet slush in the morning but we'll wait and see. I also have a crew coming in to cut off most of our pines and they hopefully will start yet this week. Tis going to be noisy for a while around here.

I heard that you were getting some wet/snowy weather over on that side of the lake Dennis. We are supposed to get maybe an inch of snow tomorrow, but the bigger snow could come this weekend. In the first two days of cutting since deer season ended, I got quite a bit done. Hoping to get caught up even more before the snow gets too deep. I'll be back at it today, of course.

One of the trees I cut yesterday was an old black oak that had been hit by lightning. It lived for a couple years after that, even tried to heal itself, but it finally gave up and died. Since there were no woodpeckers or other critters living in it, down it came and into the woodpile. A lot of really beautiful firewood in that tree, and split easy too. Some future customer will enjoy the warmth from that one.....
