Ash Vacuumes

Is that the one for $50 or $60? My buddy at work bought one and says he loves it. If I didnt have 4 shop vacs and HEPA filters and Filtration bags. I would buy one.

Seem likd a pretty good unit. Especially for the price.

Have you guys seen the Loveless ash vacs? They say they are the most popular vacs out there, that you can even vacuum up warm embers without it burning. Not many vacs that can do that!

I've got a soot vac that I use to clean out the boiler. Little big but works good for the seasonal clean-out.

Describe warm? Even Ash vacs have known to smolder there filters. Most embers I touch have been "Hot". In the manual it still states to let the stove or ashes cool.

Maybe I'm just cheap. But I saved $200 and still have to wait for my stove to cool. An Ash vac looks better if you set it near the stove, but I have a utility closet I keep mine in. Along with some pellets and a toolbox.

At our nearest Menards, sale items use orange tags and regular priced items use green tags. I tried to search their website for that particular item but was not able to find it. You wouldn't have a brand name or SKU for it by chance?

Their online search sucks. Key in ash AND vacuum but it says it could not match and substitutes ash OR and OR vacuum. DOH!

I got the $200 Loveless. Worth every penny. It's very well made and has a shaker rod that allows you to shake the filter clean without opening the vac up. The best part is I get no ash puffs from the vacuum and no more built up ash on everything in the room. The filter is a two stage unit with an inner and outer fiberglass specially treated material. You almost never have to replace the filter so long as you don't get hot ashes directly on it. The inlet of the hose is much lower in the can than the filter hangs so it's not a direct hit if you accidentally suck up hot ashes.

I got the loveless vacuum also. I got the quieter version and is is LOUD. I can't imagine the loud one. I wear ear protection when I use it. I like it, but wished it had a little more suction.

I presume it's not so easy to design a filter system that combines high flow rates with ultra-filtration and fire resistance. Probably cost 5 times more. I did get the quieter one and it's not any louder than I would have expected from a vacuum. As far as power, it's designed to suck up ash and only ash. It does that incredibly well. The directions explain how to use the tip properly by placing the flat nozzle on floor of the stove and drag it around while keeping it vertical. I just do that a few times and the ash mysteriously disappears.

I don't have an ash vacuum. What do you do when you are running your stove 24/7 and need to remove the ash if the vacuum only works on cold ash? I have been just using a bucket and scoop and try to keep the dust to a minimum when I empty. Normally I just take out about a half bucket at a time so there is always good embers in there.

I have the Loveless and a regular ash bucket. When I only had the bucket, everytime I put a shovel full of ash in it I'd get a puff of ash out of the bucket. The living room was accumulating a layer of ash. That's why I bought the vac. Now I'm thinking about putting a hole in the ash bucket to accept the hose end of the vac. That way when I scoop hot ashes into the bucket, the rising plume will get sucked into the vac. No more worries about hot ashes. No matter how you look at it, when you burn 24/7, removing ashes can be messy and treacherous when things are still hot. I found hot ashes after the second day of not burning during a warm spell.

Exactly, they don't even recommend vac'ing up embers/coals.

I just use my chop vac for the pellet stove when it is OUT and I use a shovel for the wood stove.

i have the loveless ash vac also it's worth every penny i spent on it .even though you are not to vac up ash thats hot its worth it . the only people that i ever heard say its not worth the money are the one that dont have one. i have the louder version and its not to loud at all.

When I did that I kept seeing clouds of ash rising out of the bucket no matter how careful I was. No more with the ash vac.

I am sure "warm" as in very near cool, but obviously you have to use your own judgement. When the metal hose gets hot, it would be an obvious sign! My understanding is you can still burn the filter with hot embers, bet if you are careful then it will take them. Its obviously more common sense to let them cool, but I just thought that was a neat bit of info.

The ash vac is small, I don't see why you couldn't store it in the utility closet too? Atleast there would be no ash dust around for later cleanup around the mantle or whatever other furniture is nearby.

Thanks for your info, I have heard many good reveiws on the product myself, I too think its cool they have 2 filters in the system along with the agitator rod to shake off any ash so to not have to open the vac up to clean it.

...and this is exactly what I am trying to avoid/get rid of is all the dusty ash that accumulates in the room after cleaning out the stove. This is what I am trying to attain is NO MORE, so I think I am going to check more into the Loveless Ash Vac!

I wait for a warmer spell and try to clean the insert when cool. In spite of that, I have picked up hot embers before. I always take the head off the vacuum after I'm done and put the can outside -- way outside. I let it sit there for a couple of days and then dump it. It great to not have that ash dust everywhere.
