I have an insert in my fireplace now but I'm looking to upgrade to a more efficient one. I think the Answer is the answer because of my small (24x24) firebox opening. Their website shows an outside air kit but doesn't say if its available when in insert mode. I would route the intake through the ash door in the floor of the fireplace to outside. Any experiences with this?

BUMP?

Anybody?

Bringing this back from the dead.
I bought a Lopi Answer from Craigslist today. Its an older model stove, not an insert. But its in great shape, and I only paid $200.
So my my questions are:
What, if any, are the differences between an Answer insert and an Answer free standing stove?
Can I just unbolt the legs, put on a blower, and hook up the flue?

yes, if they are like the Avalon stoves. (never been a Lopi dealer so i'm not 100% sure)
they were modular stoves; a surround panel set and its an insert, legs or pedestal and its a freestanding

If you can get a 4" dryer vent hose though your ash dump? A lot of stoves/inserts have the option of an OAK thought the bottom or the back.

the Answer is like the Avalons so you can get panels and a blower. The outside air kit won't work . The opening is in the center on the bottom.

I guess you might be able to remove some brick in the fireplace and channel air from the ash dump if you think outside air is that important. There are threads on here about that subject.
