Had the family all helping with bringing in the wood for the stove. The wife, 14yr boy, 11yr girl, 9yr girl, and my wife.
They help and makes it go quick, couple arm loads a piece and done. I was going down the stairs and thought i heard my 3yr old boy, so stop and look down the stairs and down the hallway, nothing there. I thought i was on the last stair and took a big step to go from the stairs and down the hallway. I was actually on the third step from last, so my right foot, heal hit the first step top and went toe down into the floor and wedged between floor and bull nose of the first step and stopped, i kept going forward and threw the wood and landed on hands and knees with foot still wedged. good thing wife and kids were upstairs and outside. said a few choice things. sorry for the pics, but had to post this up. don't make fun of my feet either. just a reminder to be safe. plus did not help that i was trying to some what show up my 14yr old boy, and haul more than him, his fault, him and his mouth. i am not an old man, pphhttt.

Those are a fine looking pair of feet, if temporarily purpled in places--don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I thank you for posting these. They will live here forever, and whenever anyone starts a thread wondering if they should do a basement install of their woodstove, we can refer them back to this thread.

Good reminder to all that haste often makes, darnitall anyway, waste.

Heal quick.

OOWWww,ow,ow,ow,ow. That sucks. I do believe this is when I would pull out the bottle of Jack and have a good 4 fingers worth. It doesn't fix the foot, but it makes it so that you don't care.

OOOOWWW no pour 4 fingers on foot and drink the rest.

yep and 4 IBP to go with it. 800 mgs. woke up the next morning with that uhh who am I, where am I.

Ouch man that really stinks. On the positive side I think I found the shade of purple that I want in my workroom.

I am also a basement burner at the moment and I am very cognizant of the stairs on the way down with a fat armload. 13 steps. This is a good reminder to maintain that vigilance. Hope your foot heals quick!!

Ouch! Heal quick!

I too am a basement burner. I've been hauling one of those canvas carriers for a couple of years now, but decided to do the pipe-in-the-basement-window-chute thing this year. I've been concerned about doing the same thing....

Sympathy from another basement burner. RICE that foot if you aren't already. Apply whiskey to stomach while RICE-ing the foot.

i have thought about trying a chute through the basement window. do you have pics? for me it would be through to a bedroom and then haul from there. I am looking at the canvas carriers right now on amazon.

basement burner / canvas carrier

here's to a speedy recovery

That's really painful looking.

At least you can sit designing a good chute system while you're laid up ;-)

Damn. Ice. Beer. and some Motrin. Sorry to see that.

ouch, hope it heals quick.

I am VERY thankful that I have a "walkout" basement door that makes it convenient to bring wood in.

Ouch! May you heal fast.

fwiw, it does not look too bad even if painful. I speak as someone who has had 20+ sprained ankles. No to the smart aleks. Not 20 ankles, 20 sprains.

Sure, will do. I'll take pics of the bracket too that keeps the pipe from making a mess of the window frame. I have to put some wood in this weekend, so I'll do it then.

Cheers!

Curber put me onto this idea-When I need to fill the wood box I put a scrap piece of 12 inch pvc threw the window and send the wood down it into the wood box- i wheel my "box-O-wood" into our cellar room where i'll bring out a reload at a time
PS, in your first post you listed your wife twice- or both of your wives? Have to ask because we are in that part of the country!

A little rest and ice should take care of that. As Dennis said, it may be sore, but doesn't really look too bad.

This is what i did at work back in May. I tore my distal tibialis anterior and am waiting for surgery to repair it. I had bruising all the way up the front/outside of my leg to my knee.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Just remember not all basement installs are down a flight of stairs. My basement is actually at ground level and is the main entrance. A 1st floor install would make me have to drag wood up a flight of stairs.

Man, I hate to say this but it'll be Memorial Day weekend 2012 and you'll still be feeling a twinge of that from time to time.. That sucks.

Rest up, take it easy and heal quick!!

Oh man that hurt!
I cut & framed in a wood door for that same reason.
Thru the house, down the steps to the basement.
No more mess, not steps, no dropped wood on the floor etc.
May modify it with a 12" PVC pipe & slide to the wood box.

Glad it was just sprained,
Ace bandage & a full lace up boot, & be careful will ya.
Get healed up , you got work to do :)

Did something similar to that but broke a bone in my left ankle many years ago. Not on a dare though. Was on a camping trip and put an end to it. With a little humor please know I know your pain I was in a cast for 10 weeks but now you can refer to these pictures and prove to your son you are not an old man. You took the challenge as one young at heart. If in the future you are given the same challenge you can now, in wisdom, defer and turn a lose into a win situation. ;-)

The Germans have a great saying -- Was man nicht im Kopf hat muss man in den Beinen haben. Means What one lacks in the head (brain) must one make up for in the legs.

I'm with you. The idea of a basement install always makes me shudder.

My one-and-only wife has been watching a show called "Sister Wives". You got two, do ya?
:)

Rest.
Ice.
Compress.
Elevate.

Get well soon.
