a) Preference to a manufacturer or unit?
b) Prices Ok?
c) Do I consider the options?

Thanks!

We love our VC Montpelier. I have nothing to compare it to, as I've never owned another stove....but so far so good!

The Jotul is a larger stove.

Biased response here. I love my Jotul. IMHO you can't go wrong with a Jotul No comparison to the Napoleon 1101 I had before.

Best thing to do is go to a show room and take a look at both stoves before buying either one….boils down to personal preference if the specs meet what you need.

So, did you make a decision yet?

Okay here we go. I have both a jotul and a VC. I really like them both. But one is not an insert. The 602 is in the kitchen and does a great job heating that smaller space. It is what it is short burns and small wood but really like the little bugger. The Montpelier is in the living room and will heat the rest of the house. Love the big door. The burn times are a little on the short side but thats okay by me. We mainly burn the monty. We are on the third season and have not had any problems. This years wood is really seasoned and it made a differnce in the way it performs. Insallation cost were just about what you list. We got the monty because it is a flush mount. I was willing to give up some performance for the look. :cheese:

Thanks for the replies.
The fireplace has an arch with stone work, so I am working through the final fit without covering the stone.
Will likely be the Monty.
