burns great. Seasons pretty fast too if you cut it this time of year

thanks

Seems like mother nature puts down plenty of Cherry on our property so we burn just over three cord a year, like the previous poster said it burns great and it seasons quick.

Just finished cutting up a large Black Cherry that had died and was coming down in sections. Good burning wood. We also have quite a few smaller Black Cherry trees growing around our nearest patch of woods. I keep them thinned out when they get about 5-8 inches in diameter in order to make more room for the maples, oaks, and such.

Love burning cherry and a plus is the great smell

Doing a search first might save some network traffic and storage glut, you know.
E.g. DAGS "'black cherry' site:hearth.com" or whatever site you prefer (e.g. arboristsite.com), or drop "site" for the whole planet.

So-so as fuel, smells great outdoors, leaves lots of crumbly char.

Are you storing the glut??? What a mood buster!!! Thought this was a freindly site?? Pat

Your black cherry should burn great!!! Post on tell one of the mods tells you otherwise, Brother..

I've burnt mostly cherry so far this year and have not seen the "lots of crumbly char" just fluffy ash. Plenty of heat for the shoulder season. Burn it!

+1

Oh... cherry is one of my favorite firewoods. There may be other woods that have more BTUs locked up in them, but many of them burn slowly in the stove. Great for a long burn, but not necessarily more heat output per hour. A stove full of dry cherry is a hot stove, and a hot stove is a happy stove.

Cut some last spring for the first time ever, cherry was 18% this fall and burns nice, I wish I could get more but I think my green ash is close to the same thing heat wise.

i burn lots of cherry which i get free from veneer logs cut-offs.

it keeps my house, family and me warm and cozy

Burned a lot of that stuff over the years and still like it. We even used to burn it green up at deer camp.

Sounds good. Some of my Cherry didn't get quite that dry. I got a blow-down that was in the upper 20s MC when I stacked it at the end of July. When I toss a medium split on, it hisses a bit and some moisture is visible on the end. It doesn't take off until it dries out. I've got some Cherry from a drier tree on the other end of the stack but it's not covered yet. :shut: I thought all of that stack would be dry. Burn and learn.

If we don't keep repeating topics what are we going to talk about on this forum?

Wood ducks and how pretty they are!! J/K Pat

Last I knew you have to have enough heat to get it to burn otherwise it will just rot or dry rot. hyuk hyuk hyuk :cheese: C'mon you had to know somebody would do that...right??

Burns great. Seasons fast. Slower to process . . . just because I keep stopping to smell the freshly split wood . . . also may cause the neighbors or spouse to wonder if you are losing your mind.
