It's in. Man this thing is quiet.
Compared to the EF-2 it runs silent. I keep checking to see if it is still running :)

Install story.
Climbed up on roof and loosened up the asphalt shingles around the old 3" flashing.
Popped the nails and pulled the shingles out. A wonderbar works great for this.
Got the flashing exposed and disassembled the vent down to it.
Found a dead very dried mouse in my cathedral box.
Pulled off the flashing to get to the cathedral hanging box clamp on the pipe.
Down below I pulled out the old stove and removed as much vent as I could.
I had to mark the cathedral box for the upgrade to the 4" vent as I didn't purchase a 4" box.
I used a set of dividers to mark the box 1/2" larger evenly around the 3" pipe.
Then I pulled out the 3" pipe.
I used a Dremel with reinforced cutting wheel to increase the cathedral box opening from 3" to 4"
Skill and patience comes into play as this is a visible cut.
Had a buddy help lift the M-55 into place. Heavy (cost me a case of beer)
Assembled the 12' of vent straight up. Connected the new 4" vent to the stove.
Mine is a pure vertical vent system.
I have my clean out T directly attached to the appliance adapter at the rear of the stove.

We loaded in a bag of Okanagans and fired it up.

It looks great and is running much quieter than I thought.
Night temps were ~27deg and I left it on manual lev 2. Woke up to a 69deg house and a smile.
No paint burn in smell as I had cooked it off on Wednesday night.

Today I have to replace the roof shingles (I didn't do it yesterday due to it being cold then but supposed to be warmer today)

Here are a few pics Inside complete (except thermo)

Thanks,
---Nailer---

Glad to see the most important part of any installation, a cold bottle of beer.

Sweet! The M55 cast is a beautiful stove. Give us some comparisons after you run it for a while.

Nice install. Your going to love this stove. Very little maintenance. The agitater does a nice job pushing the junk out of the burn pot.

Looks nice! Looks like a well made hearth pad too.

PS- noticed the Boy Scout popcorn box- thanks for helping out a Scout!!! Now get back to that beer!

Congrats on the really nice install. Hope the helper got more than 1 "adult beverage". ;-)

Enjoy the (quiet) heat!!

Very nice... Love the look of those stoves!!! Now time to update the Sig and possibly the Avatar (unless you are sticking with the vintage EF2).

Congrats. Little jealous

;-P

Hello Nailer

Nice install, looks good.

Just wondering if being cast iron, does it give off radiant heat also?

Thanks everyone. This thing is amazing.
If you are on the fence about getting one. Jump over it!
I shoulda done this years ago.

The guy in the pic is my buddy that helped move the stove.
That was the first of a case.

I no longer drink so I have to enjoy a beer thru others.

Don, the cast side panels get warm so yeah it radiates a bit.

Due to Pats game and a Cub Scout project I didn't get up on roof today to button it up.
Tomorrow should do it.

Gonna have to update my sig and avatar. :)

Looks good, Nailer. Patriots romp, new stove, that makes for a great day! Hopefully we will have an easy winter "on Cape." Enjoy!

You wouldn't say that if you gave the points!! ;-P

Looks great Nailer.
Keep us posted how you like it.

Thanks again everyone,

I finished up the install today. Got the clamp on the pipe for the cathedral hanging box.
Sealed up the flashing with 500 deg. RTV
Spliced in replacement shingles. Just in time for tomorrows rain.

Have the stove off this afternoon because it was 80 in my living room. :)

Threerun, Those are outgoing popcorn orders. I am a Den Leader for my Wolf Scout son. :)

Gonna clean it and re-fill it to get ready for tonight.

Gotta get a programmable stat for this thing. The ON-OFF Lux PSM30SA that came with it won't do.

About the only thing I don't like is the hopper door. The stove is huge.
They could have made a larger fill door. It's like filling an insert. Just a narrow slit to dump pellets in.
I'm used to the EF-2. 3/4 of the top opened up.

I'll adjust. This thing is awesome. :)

Nailer. Feel the same way about the way you fill. I started opening the back panel to fill the hopper and then top it off in the front. You say the stove is very quiet. Im wondering if you have the old convection blower. If you remove the right panel and look at the end of the blower, if it has a sguare black box its the old blower. if its round black plastic its the new blower. The new blower is a bit louder than the older one but has more cfm,s.

kykel,

Do you re-lock the rear hopper door? Or just close it?
I like the idea of filling there instead of the front. Gonna have to try that one out.

I have to pull the stove out from the wall about 2" to open the right side panel.
All I have is a 8" torx driver. No stubby yet.
Not worth it at this point. Not at 500 lbs. :)
I'll check it when I do a deep clean. Around Christmas.
Unless I can find a stubby 1/4" driver.

I just open and close the lid,my hopper lid fits pretty tight so no need to lock it. I also miss the way my old stove hopper was. I used to cut the top off the bag flip it upside down and pull bag out. Thats the only complaint I have with the stove and not much of one at that.
You only have to loosen the screws to remove the side panels.

Nailer, If you can find a stubby? I'll send you a 1/4 inch tee handle. Just tell me where to send it! Got a couple stashed in my tool cart. ;-)
