hello this is my first cat stove. is it normal to have a 450 degree stove top with the cat glowing red and only a 250 degree stove pipe temp? With my 30-nc I ran much higher stove pipe temps to keep creosote to a minimum.

Yep, it's normal for a cat stove to run lower stack temps. Some think this means that more heat stays in your home.

Sounds like your doing it about right. Most of the time my external pipe temps run 200-300 degrees depending on how hot I want to run it. Pretty amazing how these Woodstock's hold the heat in the stove. The guy I sold my Fireview to called me about a month ago and was wondering why his stack temps were so much lower compared to his old stove.
Yes, that's normal. Although the cat won't glow throughout the whole burn cycle. For me, it's only for a few hours.

Definitely normal. Wait until you get that stove top to 600 or more and you'll still wonder why the flue temperature is so low! It works!
Great info, the manual doesnt say anything about pipe temps and the cat glowing at times. Absolutely love this stove. I can see I'll be using less wood this year. Thanks for the input.

Greybeard, we cut our wood needs in half when we got the Fireview. Hope you do as well but even if you cut it by a third you are well ahead of the game.
