The new stove, Englander 13NC is set to arrive today and the installer here on Tuesday. It comes with both the pedestal and the legs. Is there any benefit of one over the other? How about heat distribution from underneath the stove? Is it somewhat "trapped" there when using the pedestal?
I ran a small metal fan on the floor in the corner behind my old box stove to blow heat from underneath and around the stove out into the rooms. Yes, the stove blower is included in this purchase but I've never used one before and maybe that does the trick as well? or does that just blow heat from the top? Thanks for your help :)

Pedestal on my Regency let's me pressurize the airbox and eliminate a backdrafting chimney prior to starting (basement woodstove). I forget how I discovered this trick, but what I do is, I put a 6" fan and shroud (cardboard cutout) in the open pedestal door, open air control fully, lay my fire, start the fan, close stove door and sit tight for a few seconds, open door, quickly light fire and close door and let the positive pressure get the fire going and draft reversed. As soon as I see the flames going up and over the baffle, I open the door and let the fire catch on as per normal. Works every time and takes only seconds to accomplish. If it had legs, I couldn't do that and I'd be screwed in a backdraft situation (opening the window beside the stove doesn't work). I also like the look of a pedestal better.

I was going to install my Englander 30 with the pedistal, but in the end used the legs. I think it looks better - but that's me. Others very much like the pedistal.

With regards to your question, I think legs lets air move around the stove better, pedistal is better when (or was for me) when toating the stove around on a dolly, pedistal is a must on the Englanders for the OAK too.

Good luck,
Bill

I have a 13 and use the legs, just think it looks more traditional. I believe the blower pushes the warm air up between the back of the stove and the rear heat shield.
I don't have the blower but have a small 8' fan on the floor about 16' away from the stove. Turn it on low blowing at the stove and it really helps circulate the warm air around the house. Learned this from this forum. There's been a lot of discussion here on the best use of fans.

Typically a pedestal will also give you a bigger ash pan.

On some stoves, there will be a flue height difference one vs. the other.

No need to sweep under a pedestal and it hides the OAK and the power cord.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your input. It was delivered with the pedestal on already and even though I like the look of the legs, I think we'll keep it this way. Installer comes Tuesday! Yeehaww! can't wait to have our wood heat back :)

Very Nice!
My 30 went in with the pedestal. I like the look of it, and after almost dropping it down the stairs I was in no mood to monkey around with the legs anywho.

We left the pedestal on, simply because it was wayyy easier once the stove was in the house.

Less debris to sweep up, too :p

Congrats, Deb !!
