sat morning scrounge - russian olive?

Went and picked this up. Had to buck it. I've never burned Russian olive before. The growth rings are nice and tight so I'm hoping it'll be a good burner. It's going towards winter 2014-2015, so it should be dry ;)

Yep definantly russian olive.. Dont know how it burns. I've got some in a future pile also. Pat

Wow, that is BIG Russian olive! Must have been growing for decades.

That stuff is spreading like wildfire around here and I hate it. In early May, it blossoms and that stuff really stinks bad. Some say the deer like it and I have noticed them browsing it some but have not noticed them eating any of the fruit. Not sure how to stop the spread as it really takes hold fast. We basically had none 5 years ago and now it is all over the place.
 
We have lots of Autumn Olive here, plus I think some Russian olive (they are similar). I have never seen any here that are anywhere near as big as those.
 
That's interesting looking wood. I don't think I've seen that out in my neck of the woods.

It'll stink to high heaven when you burn it.
I burned a little last year, and it seemed to do alright. Enjoy!
 
I have some that was big enough to split in the end of a pile, too.

I didn't even try it after a year because it was still quite heavy and it was still green looking.
I had a couple rounds on top of a stack I wasn't going to bother splitting and the darned things sprouted new shoots.

Invasive species here, too.
There's an old abandoned gravel pit down the road and that's all that's growing in there.
Trunks will get quite large growing in the open like that.
I find I have to go back and pull the stump out with a back hoe or it just grows right back.
