Feeling the Heat

how many people here run more then one pellet stove in their homes ?

i've had my 25-pdv since the begining of November and absolutely
love the heat it gives off.

now the g/f is hinting around to swapping the old mini moe in the
basement with another pellet stove, and i was just curious how many
of you actually run more then one stove and with running two, do you see a savings
on pellets by having multiple stoves running on a lower setting rather then one running
on high ?

I run 2 stoves only when very cold out. I don't see any savings, but I can go into my basement and not freeze to death when both are running.

If you like the heat you get from the Englander, buy a good stove and you'll be in heaven!

so i hear...but at the time i had to go with what the budget allowed

Used to spend $3,800 a yr in LP. As long as I stay under that. Im good. My 1st yr with a 2nd stove (pellet furnace) so only time will tell. Also installed a woodstove this fall to help reduce consumption.

If you notice, I have one. That's how I started. They do throw heat, but they are a pain to clean and they eat pellets. Have you learned how to change the factory settings yet?

I use 2 pellet stoves. Giving my house is old, poor insulation, it works very well. As far as savings... I can see a little with them both..

I heat with two pellet stoves. Been running an Enviro Windsor for the last 7 years, mainly to heat just a small addition. This year I finally swapped out our basement wood stove (All nighter - Big Moe!) which has been the only source of heat for the main house with another pellet stove, an Enviro Maxx unit.

Since the heat from the Windsor pretty much only heated the addition, i'm not expecting that running 2 stoves will cut down on pellet usage /savings - just more convenient now that I have the entire house on one source of fuel.

so far the only change i made was to up the middle button from 4 to 5
seems to help with a better flame and reduced the amount of junk on the glass

The button on the left is the feed rate. The factory preset should be 6. I lowered my to 5, sometimes 4.

I'm running two stoves. I have one on each floor. The one upstairs dosent run nearly as much as the one downstairs. With all the money I have spent on HHO I expect a payback in two years AND Im not cold trying to save money!

Hello

My basement install of the 45K Avalon Astoria heats the whole house just fine!

However my new shed was just built with a 3" round wall thru on the back side. Wonder why?? LOL

Just got the electric in.

Tried a Quartz Electric heater but takes a while to heat up. Have a 23,000 BTU Kerosene Heater that heats it well. But K-1 Kerosene costs $6.29 per gallon!!

So you know what the cheapest way to heat a shed, a house or any building is a Wood Pellet Stove!! The Pelpro Bay View will be in there soon!!
See pics >> https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/83929/

I just got the Landline Telephone working in the shed and now I am working on the alarm connection to the main alarm panel in the house!

I run two. One for the main part of the house and the other for a rather isolated family room. I only keep it at about 68 unless I go in to watch TV and then I crank it up to 73 on low with blower on high. So I save a little maybe.

This year I added the second stove for two reasons: 1. to balance out the heating and 2. to eliminate the oil man completely. So far it is working as planned.

I have two stoves also but only one runs full time from the basement.

The other is on the 1st floor but only gets fired up if/when the outside temps
dip near zero. Keeps the bedrooms at the end of the house from getting too cool.

Added a second to my basement this fall.

So far only running on weekends when we spend time down there.

I run 2 stoves 45,000 BTU on both floors OSBURN and ENERZONE ....both operate on feed level 3 and both on t/stats... keeping the house at 70 degrees ...great heat ....2200 sqft each floor ...and the main floor is warm on the feet

I have a Harmon Accentra in an unheated 3-season porch (that's all closed in now) and I usually burn about 1.5+ tons per season heating that area. This year I added the St.Croix pellet furnace to heat the main house and not burn oil. I may run some duct work to the 3-season porch in the future but I want to see how it does for the main house this winter before I go and add more area to heat. So, last year I burned the pellets and was using about 185 gallons of oil every 6 weeks or so. I figure if I run both stoves, I may end up burning 5+ tons this year . . . but no oil (except for hot water).

I run two stoves quite often but am only heating 2800 sq ft. Even when it's below zero, the P-43 neve runs above medium heat. The insert does run high medium high on the coldest of nights.

We have 3 stoves upstairs and one downstairs.

The Main stove upstairs is a Whitfield advantage 2
The second stove is a Whitfield Prodigy 2
The third one is a Quadrafire 1000

The two whits get fed nut Shells and the Quad gets Pellets, but for the last two seasons the Quad has only been run a couple times just to make sure it works, if needed.

The Downstairs stove is a Quad 1000 too and is used on a regular basis as its the only heat for a small apartment thats down there.

Mulitple pellet stoves are a good way to heat a larger home without having one room fry while other areas are cold.

Our house is a very Open Ranch style floor plan with no hallways.

The More the merrier eh ??

A lot depends on the intake and exhaust. Mine has been set to 3-2-1 and running lean for 3 yrs now.
On the factory settings, with the large exhaust draft that I have, it would such all the heat right up the flu.
I'm using 30` of simpson 4" pipe. Depending on the length of the pellets, Setting it on 1-9 I avg ~25 - 27 hours on a bag with a good 3 to 4" flame.

I run 2 stoves only when it gets below 20 outside, the two whits give me more then enough heat 72-75 down stairs and 68 avg upstairs. These are my only heat source.

We run one P61A now in our partially fi nished basement, and bought a P2000 Tahoe for our second floor to run once in a while. Our house has Hydronic heat which has a very poor recovery time when its cold and our living room has 22' high ceilings and all glass to the top on the end, we have 2-52" ceiling fans running all the time but we have cold spots in our living room. The heat from the P61 comes up the steps and guess whats at the top of the steps in the hallway? --the house thermostst. We have put in 14" floor registers below the windows which has helped but still not the answer so we bought this pellet stove from a place going out of business and are installing it in the top floor (2nd) in a room off from our bedroom (very large, 20x26) and will use it during the day. Hopefully everything works.

Two stoves. Wood stove downstairs, pellets stove upstairs. Works well. The oil tank expires next year, and it's gone for good (thats why we got the second stove).
